There has been a massive explosion at the Dow Chemical Plant in Plaquemine, Louisiana. Emergency crews and other agencies are currently responding to the situation. Officials are urging nearby residents to stay indoors and take shelter until further notice. Although there have been multiple explosions, authorities have not detected any chemical leaks resulting from the fire at the Dow chemical plant.

More damage to America's vital infrastructure. This is way beyond evil!
Dow says there is no danger from the fire. They know that if there is danger, they will be sued and fined and regulated into submission or out of existence. Therefore, there is no danger. If you expect the people who start the fire in a chemical plant to be honest about the danger of the fire in the chemical plant, you are an idiot. Breathe "easy" Plaquemine, Louisiana!!!
Agree and it would take deaths and years to prove it, see Camp lejune(spelling)
If there are no chemicals leaking, then what's burning?
Its not like refineries are built out of sticks. I could be wrong, but I doubt there is much to burn at a refinery other than the chemicals.
Not all chemicals are toxic. It may be something like alcohol that will burn but the smoke or fumes may not be fatal. Even regular smoke from ordinary combustibles won't necessarily endanger a city but it can endanger people with breathing issues.
Chances are, the chemicals are probably bad and/or toxic but we won't know that until they are forced to give details. Note - if we see Homeland Security onsite then the chemicals are either toxic or can be used in terrorism.

"... authorities [are not reporting that they] have <strike>not</strike> detected any chemical leaks..."
Days after an explosion in Galveston.
Q. Didn't they have to blow off a bunch of chemicals during the fires a week ago. No one talked about it. But MSM, was reporting, fire, fire fire, FIRE, FIRE, FIRE FIRE!!!!!!
That was Union Carbide.
You are still wrong. The Union Carbide disaster in Bhopal, India was in 1984. Dow Chemical bought Union Carbide in 2001.

Thank you for that. You're correct. Deleting my previous incorrect posts.
I am a Michigan native and was in my first year at Michigan Tech when this happened. I remember spending time in Chem discussing this. If Dow (based in Midland, Michigan) had been involved it would have been even bigger news here. Dow is one of the biggest employers in Michigan.
I have 7 years at a facility. What do they really value? Purple polos, managers constantly signaling and GLAD.
Always on a river! How odd!
