Great photo OP! Wonder if someone can ID the addresses of those 3 house on the shoreline that were spared when EVERYTHING around them burned, to find out who owns them.
The hotel is Lahaina Shores Beach Resort. The big house left standing is 433 Front St, Lahaina, HI 96761, according to Google Maps.

Brian Cook. $4.1M
Hotel to the left, clearly visible on the next post
That is an very clear picture, wow. It is weird how some houses remained untouched.
It's clear as day to me. Each house caught fire individually.
The last time I checked, trees are made out of wood aren't they?
The thing with trees is they are also "wet". Cut a tree down and try to burn it in your fireplace or fire pit.its not gonna burn too good if at all.itll just sit there smoldering and sizzling while you watch it push the water/sap out the ends. Let it sit for a year and dry out, itll burn. Thats why fire wood is seasoned or kiln dried.
But the leaves and small branches should burn off them.
Houses are built with kiln dried lumber. The older the house, the drier the wood is.an old house will burn hotter and faster than a new house.
Your comment feels like the beginning of a Monty Python skit.
Where's Rusty with his long range drone when you need him...
I want to believe in space lasers too but this seems more like better building materials, and likely equip with fire protection. Same thing happens in Colorado and Cali fires. Fire always travels the path of least resistance, cheap building materials burn waaàay easier than healthy moisture filled trees.
SURGICAL PRECISION
Fire is weird that way. I noticed the same taking a drive through the Waldo Canyon area in Colorado Springs when it was cleared for people to enter the area. You'd see a house or two amongst a sea of destruction standing intact.
They all have lots of solar. Interesting, or not
Wow, they are so LUCKY!!! Right?................
This raises a few questions. Also need to consider the possibility that a smart pede designed or modified their building to resist the heat.
Was there a non-health-related reason for banning asbestos?
Were corners cut in construction of the buildings or in the manufacturing of the materials used? Grenfell Tower. Is it even possible to add enough fire retardant to plastic to prevent an "open air" flashover?
This is so Spy vs Spy, but could a tanker dump an accelerant that would not cause a big telltale fireball like Hollywood gasoline explosions? Liquid O2?
In 2013 a tornado hit my hometown in IL. The tornado developed extremely close to our home. We were the rural end of a suburb basically. All of our neighbors were wiped out. Every single house around us was wiped out. The "vinyl village" nearby was wiped out. A 1/3 of the city was wiped out. We were the only people who had a house that night at the storms development point. Just us. No major damage. Lost a garage door and an outbuilding. Minor roof damage. Debris like crazy on the 10 acre property though.
God showed me His hand coming down and protecting the property like a dome over it all. Impressive how He works. And why He works as He does.
Not saying this pic is that, but God is so good ALL the time that this stirred something in me worth testifying to.
Recent nearby fierce windstorms took down a lot of large trees. Friend of mine reported a neighbor who had trailers, out buildings, vehicles, all surrounded by trees, had one huge one come down- right between everything. Landed right up against his garage, without damaging it either. God is great.
