Families were put on the front line so that you had to fight for not just your life but the life of your wife and children. If dad fell, mom picked up the rifle and began firing. Communism lost and people are still enraged to this day.
After the war if you identified yourself as communist or tried to promote it they would simply kill you. Nowadays if you identify yourself as a communist they may beat you and remove you from the Island.
I think this is more like what is meant. When they say it's going to be biblical we may actually see people stoned to death in communities.
