It is common down here to hear a pastor finishing a prayer by saying, "And all God's children say..." and the and the congregation saying in unison, "AMEN." I don't know how regionalisms (words and sayings that one finds in one region but not another) begin, but it does happen.
Another example of a regionalism is like when a Southern woman says, "Well bless your heart." It MIGHT be meant as an actual blessing, but can also mean several things... like, "I don't agree with you, but carry on," or "that's the dumbest thing I've ever heard," or many other nuances that would have to be understood in context.
But I mean this literally as a blessing, bless your heart, fren.
1 Do not fret because of evil men or be envious of those who do wrong;
2 for like the grass they will soon wither, like green plants they will soon die away.
3 Trust in the LORD and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture.
4 Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart.
5 Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him and he will do this:
6 He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn, the justice of your cause like the noonday sun.
7 Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him; do not fret when men succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes.
8 Refrain from anger and turn from wrath; do not fret–it leads only to evil.
9 For evil men will be cut off, but those who hope in the LORD will inherit the land.
10 A little while, and the wicked will be no more; though you look for them, they will not be found.
11 But the meek will inherit the land and enjoy great peace.
12 The wicked plot against the righteous and gnash their teeth at them;
13 but the Lord laughs at the wicked, for he knows their day is coming.
14 The wicked draw the sword and bend the bow to bring down the poor and needy, to slay those whose ways are upright.
15 But their swords will pierce their own hearts, and their bows will be broken.
Amen! Praise Jesus! Pray for the lost while we still have time. Our blessed hope is just about here. Signs of the times are all over the place even in the stars. See all you saved people in the clouds. HalleluJAH!
I was ready to hit the rack and when I read your scribe and it was Psalm 91 I had to say thank you....That is ONE of my favorite psalms that I don't say often enough but remember the words...I said this Psalm when I was in Vietnam...Thank you and God Bless!!
Before all this in 2016, I met with an old Russian Orthodox monk who was more than 90 years old and spoke very little English, and this Psalm was the main advice he gave me. He has since reposed, may his memory be eternal. It has touched me how often it comes up in the anon community.
TY for this reminder , I used to be disciplined about reading thf word over myself family and home ,, time to get back to the real world where our safety comes from God Himself
And all God's children say "AMEN!"
Amen.
AMEN!!
Ahhhh a Hibbs man!! ❤️
Heh, no, not really. It's a common thing we say in the South at church services.
