"News" sites cut out the comments section for the longest time.....while getting their ducks in a row....so that their audience wouldn't be warned or distracted. Only when Trump got in did the comment sections come back in. I wondered how many had noticed. Now we see why they were cut.
In my area, the comment sections of news sites (a few of which have published practically since the American Revolution) cut the comments sections right before COVID hit full swing, so Jan/Feb 2021. Sus AF.
Most of these companies have crap food. This adds to their downfall.
How do you get people to willingly let go of the poisonous products from entities that they have been taught to trust their whole lives?
I've noticed a trend. Either based comments dominate, or comments are disabled. Even on stuff that I would consider centrist or classic liberal.

The gross increase in food prices and sticker shock when they got the bill eating at these places has shocked many into being more conscious about the cost of things...what you gotta give and what you get in return.
