Following reports of an attack on a U.S. warship in the Red Sea, here was former Obama CIA director and defense secretary Leon Panetta last night at the Reagan National Defense Forum about how the U.S. should respond to the increasing number of attacks by Iran's proxy groups against U.S. forces in the Middle East:
"I would be much more aggressive," Panetta said. "I want to go after those who are firing missiles at our troops and make sure they understand that when they fire a missile--they are going to die."

Why are some Yemenis firing missiles at an innocent wee US war-ship trying not at all to flex in the Red Sea? That ship was totally not supporting Israel's genocide by any chance? Also, just to emphasize. most people will get really mad, for the rest of their lives, when their children are killed. This is Basic Military Math, with centuries of history behind it. Kill mass civilians and you will lose the war. It really becomes a populist support thing at that stage. Someone will eventually object in a very dramatic way, just as the Houthis from Yemen, who suffered a similar ethnic-cleansing attempt only just a couple years ago, and they are shooting tiny rockets, symbolically, in defense of others, causing no loss of life.
Never mind bleating about 'our troops' who are openly, in the eyes of the world, supporting a demon. Even one's troops are going to object and refuse to lift a rifle at some point, just because it ain't Christian anymore, to kill children.
And to gauge the troop-revulsion and opt-out: Just look at how many US mercs (volunteer soldiers by another pay-master) returned home from Ukraine. Add that figure to the guys who died there. But I suppose statistics count for nothing when blowing MIC smoke.
