I was a registered independent back before 2020, and found out that I could or vote Republican, only dem lib and green. So I had to switch to GOPe so I could vote for Trump.
They also color code republican ballots red so they are easy to spot so they can be "handled with care". ;-)
The sham recall of newsom was also rigged with odd holes in the ballots so they could see if you voted for Elder.
Well.. GOP really helped newsom there, no one could really see themselves voting for Elder, let alone see him running a state.

One should not have to declare their party of choice. Just vote how you see the candidate aligns with your values on any given election.
That works in the general election, obviously, but in the primaries that is often abused by crossover voting by DemonRats to select a weak or bogus Republican.
