It was caused by Aqua Net Hair Spray and other aerosol spray cans. That just proves we can solve global warming by bringing back the original aerosol spray cans.

As kids we used to use that stuff as stickum for sports play.
I remember it well. They were telling us we are headed for a mini ice age. But the politicians couldnt extort $ from us (carbon tax, emissions tax etc) with this so they claimed (Gore et al) it was global warming. Scientists showed proof, politicians did not so they changed the term to climate change.

I remember it very well. I was in grade school and middle school through the 70s and the indoctrination was all about the coming ice age. There were lesson plans that revolved around this narrative. If you look close enough at the news articles you can almost pinpoint an exact date in 1983 where the narrative went from coming ice age to global warming. By that point I was a senior in HS. If you werent in school in the 70s and 80s you have no room to comment.
It does appear that both covers of Times are referring to energy, however there was a push in the 70s about global cooling. Here is just one of many articles that makes reference. Gosh I remember those days. Same time Kissinger got the world fuel cost to sky rocket. Long gas lines too. I remember when a loaf of bread was 35 cents there was a rumor of next years cost in 1974 to be a Buck/dollar. We all laughed. We were WRONG it did go to a dollar. Could buy a 35 cent loaf of bread AND 35 cents a gallon of gasoline. Keep in your mind the democrats and republicans gave gave us our world of misery. They created all this, plus super inflation too

They switched from "global cooling", to "global warming", to "climate change", as the data used to support either cooling or warming fell apart. More than thirty years ago, they were trying to use sea level rise as the most significant threat from "global warming" (they meant "man-made global warming", of course). Well, we have had more than 100 years of global sea level rise data to analyze, and it DESTROYS the "global warming" theory (again, too avoid any confusion, "man-made global warming" theory), thus, the reason they switched to "climate change" (and, again, insinuating "man made climate change"), is because there are ALWAYS extremes in weather, which they falsely claim is evidence of "climate change". As a scientist, it enrages me so much to see how science has been corrupted by political ideology.
The Global Ice Age happening by 1980 didn't work so now we have Global Warming going after the tax money. Wonder what they will come up with next? Global Disease---wait, that's been done---- Global Financial Collapse? Yeah, that's the ticket!

Most everyone has good heaters. And lots of people don't have air conditioning. The idea of global warming is a real bitch if you don't have AC. AC is pretty rare in the northern US and europe.
No one realy cares if the winter temp is 5 degrees or zero.
AC isnt rare in the northern States. Maybe in 1975 it was but not now. Every home built in the last 40 years has central air.
That maybe,I lived in an area up north, wear no one had it and very few new homes were built. The bigger cities were they are expanding have it I guess.
I can't speak for all regions but I had a house in the UK and I installed aircon in the south-facing office, which was otherwise too hot in summer and too cold in winter.
Here in southern Greece I have aircon in every room including the workshop; again for both cooling and heating.
When my daughters or step-daughters mention Climate Change, my wife reminds them that we lived through the Ice Age of the 70s.

I read a similar publication of Newseek when it came out. Absolute garbage then and laughable now. Scientists of the time were toying with melting Artic ice. Some even suggested placing blankets over the ice of Greenland. Today's global warming is just as comical. Made me wonder what catastrophic failure had happened within the minds of (supposed) scientists.
In fairness, if you read or at least skim the articles about this covers, they aren't about global freezing (although that was being promoted in the 70s) they are about the reduced availability of heating fuels during winter.
This scared me as a child, and made me secretly angry at my mother for her obsession with aqua net. Cured me of ever falling for this crap again.

There was NO energy crisis. It was ALL manipulation of availability, just like all the "shortages" during "covid". Fear mongering is a great way to increase profits.
