It’s pretty wild how German “intellectualism” coming to the US is spoken of in a revered manner in graduate studies when anyone with independently functioning brain cells can tell it was a problematic turn of events.
A century later, American academia has gone in the opposite political direction—leftward instead of rightward—but has ended up in much the same place. The question is whether we—unlike the Germans—can do something about it.
This is a point my high school economics teacher made, that many never grasp. The whole left vs right is a false dichotomy: if you go far enough left, you end up on the right, and vice versa. In both cases you end up with tyranny.
Relevant topic, interesting essay fodder and once you get past the saturation of WW2 orthodoxy that normie historians can never escape, probably a worthwhile contribution to the corpus.
However, Niall Ferguson is yet another intellectual grifter using a substantial platform to make his own safe, Overton Window noises during the most tumultuous, consequential and destructive era of his life. Cut from the same zero-self-awareness cloth as Jordan Peterson et al, blissfully unaware of or wilfully blind to the fact they are living smack bang in the middle of a world war and eugenicist Holocaust while indulging adjacent, fringe and even frivolous commentary about “woke” and occasionally prior wars and Holocausts...
Heck, Peterson, the self-appointed expert on tyranny and totalitarianism via the rise of woke ideology (he wrote the foreword to the re-release of Gulag Archipelago, FFS!) who then folded like a wet paper tiger when actual modern globally coordinated fascism hit the so-called liberal West. And Ferguson, who grifts and shills about every historical atrocity except ones happening on his watch right under his nose via the scamdemic, lockdowns, toxic injectables, managed economic collapse, destruction of human rights and national sovereignty etc. He even alludes to it in the article: “For some, Hitler’s antisemitism was therefore—not unlike woke intersectionality in our own time—a career opportunity…”

By that point, although Benito Mussolini had been in power in Italy for five years, Adolf Hitler was still six years away from power in Germany and 13 years away from victory over France.

If this problem existed BEFORE Hitler came to power, how could it be the "Third Reich" that caused the problem?

How does the author connect what was going on in Germany in the 1920's with the Third Reich, which did not exist, yet?
We DO KNOW that in Germany, from the end of WW1 and into the 1920's, that the jewish communists who had caused massive harm in Russia just a few years earlier and were still doing so, were also attempting to overthrow Germany.
I would be willing to bet that THESE are the "intellectuals" who were causing the problems in 1920's, that the author of the article falsely attributes to the "Nazis."
Maybe if someone posts the full article, we will find out if my hunch is right or not.

I know I have debated some people about IQ scores. This is why I don't put too much value into IQ.
It came from a psychologist and philosopher William Stern (Jewish) lol. Not to hate on the Jews. But this is true.

The US military conducted a 100-year study on IQ for military readiness purposes.

A couple of years ago Dinesh D'Souza gave a talk outlining why the so-called intellectual class is behind Marxism: basically it is a power grab.
Germans fired 30% of them and the rest toed the nazi line.
