Not a lot of sauce on these comments. Does someone have actual data to back up all these weed is bad claims? Or do we use what our flawless mass media has fed us for generations? Asking for a friend because there are a lot of folks that would say the health benefits will put a real dent in the pharma profits.
I have done a fair amount of research trying to find causality within the results of available studies (NIH.Gov) mostly. The reports of harmful effects are things like lost IQ points and other 'impossible to link' conditions to substantiate claims.
I can not find any study that directly links naturally grown (not chinese gmo weed that is then produced and sold for legal or illegal recreational use.) to any physical or mental condition that does NOT contain words like, 'suggests' (a link between said condition or result, and clean natural cannibis. Words like 'may' 'could' 'seems' might', etc.
This is fear porn from the Sacklers.
I am talking about a plant. Grown and cultivated by a free Patriot, for their own use.
Compare that to studies on Flouride, alcohol, or any of the common medications in use today. Look up the side effects of the top ten medications is use today. It is horrifying.
Cannibis treats many of these conditions, and does it better, cheaper, and with far less damaging side effects.
This is one of the few things dems have gotten right. Prosecuting people for anything related to cannabis is awful. Only people who know nothing about it or want to suppress the countless benefits are against cannabis. Oh no, the wonderful smells! The activation of higher mental faculties! The horror!
My dad was a college professor with many published works and certainly a genius level intellect. He smoked cannabis and didn't seem to have a problem. I became disillusioned with education and never pursued it more than I had to but I don't think smoking almost every day has done anything to hinder my thinking. I definitely don't feel dumber than the vast majority of people. I think we all have the potential to be super-geniuses actually and it's very limited to think things like "Weed makes you lost."
As a long term weed smoker and now dry herb vaper I can defiantly say I can see the downside regarding ability to concentrate or focus. I self-medicated from the age of 12, however it's better than anything the medical community can do. Had a Charles Dicken's character's childhood...
Marijuana is easy to stop smoking, I never failed a drug test and probably had a dozen back in my 30's. In my 40's and 50's a might have used a dozen times. A friend or relative popped by with some, etc... Returning to the USA at 62 and Fla. had medical... so I got the card. Now in Tenn. there's only CBD weed.
I don't recommend any substance abuse, but I'd rather see people use weed then drink alcohol. Only after working in hotels that had bars did I learn that most alcohol addicts don't over imbibe, but a few do. My mother seemed unable to establish a relationship with a non-spouse abusing drunkard. A drunkard herself, but not abusive, however allowing your children to witness wife/ GF beatdowns is a form of child neglect, and it wasn't because muh roof over our heads, because she, or they, never did that well ether.
Thank God for grandma and grandpa for picking me and my sister up sitting on our things several times, and taking care of us for years at a time.
Student loan forgiveness. Millions of illegals/ new. DNC voters. Lowering rates next year so the economy looks better than it is….soon biden will be appearing in every black church and kamala will regain her black accent when giving speeches.
Really? All the people that I know, who are fast asleep, drink alcohol. In fact, they make fun of the potheads, but they're the ones who are more awake & into conspiracies.
I drink and smoke weed, arguably self medicating to cope with all the red pills I've taken. When someone starts jabbering about all this woke bullshit it's easier to laugh at them when I'm high or drunk instead of getting all worked up over it.
A few people have asked for sauce on the "weed causes brain damage" issue. Like, srsly? This is so totally well-known that, like water flowing downhill, it oughtn't to need sauce. But nonetheless here you go:
Lasting impacts of prenatal cannabis exposure and the role of endogenous cannabinoids in the developing brain
... Human epidemiological and animal studies have found that prenatal cannabis exposure influences brain development and can have long-lasting impacts on cognitive functions. ...
Persistent cannabis use as an independent risk factor for violent behaviors in patients with schizophrenia
... The authors reported findings covering an 18-month period from a randomized, double-blind clinical trial of antipsychotic medications for schizophrenia treatment. Among the 1460 patients enrolled in the trial, 965 were followed longitudinally. Although persistent cannabis use predicted subsequent violence, violence did not predict cannabis use. The relationship was therefore unidirectional and persisted when controlling for stimulants and alcohol use. Finally, a significant body of evidence suggests a link between persistent cannabis use and violence among people with mental illnesses. Studies to further investigate the mechanisms underlying this association should be conducted. ...
How Marijuana Exposure Affects Developing Babies’ Brains
... Children of marijuana users were more impulsive and hyperactive, and exhibited behavioral issues, lower IQ scores, and memory problems when compared to children of non-users. These mental health problems persisted through their teenage years, where they were significantly more likely to have attention problems and depression. Marijuana-exposed children were also almost twice as likely to display delinquent behavior, such as drug use, by the age of 14 and were more than twice as likely to regularly use marijuana and tobacco as adults. The very consistent results between mice and human studies (summarized in the infographic from The Scientist below) highlights an increasing understanding of the impacts of marijuana use on development. ...
What are marijuana's long-term effects on the brain?
... Several studies, including two large longitudinal studies, suggest that marijuana use can cause functional impairment in cognitive abilities but that the degree and/or duration of the impairment depends on the age when a person began using and how much and how long he or she used. ... A large longitudinal study in New Zealand found that persistent marijuana use disorder with frequent use starting in adolescence was associated with a loss of an average of 6 or up to 8 IQ points measured in mid-adulthood. Those who used marijuana heavily as teenagers and quit using as adults did not recover the lost IQ points.
Associations Between Prenatal Cannabis Exposure and Childhood Outcomes
... This study suggests that prenatal cannabis exposure and its correlated factors are associated with greater risk for psychopathology during middle childhood. Cannabis use during pregnancy should be discouraged. ...
US Epidemiology of Cannabis Use and Associated Problems
... A recent meta-analysis indicates that infants born to women who used marijuana prenatally were more likely than others to be anemic, have low birth weight, and require neonatal intensive care (Gunn et al, 2016). Prenatal marijuana exposure is also linked to subsequent impaired executive functioning in school (Wu et al, 2011), consistent with prospective research showing associations between prenatal cannabis exposure, restricted fetal growth, and greater childhood frontal cortical thickness (El Marroun et al, 2016). ...
Is there a link between marijuana use and psychiatric disorders?
...cannabis use is associated with an increased risk for an earlier onset of psychotic disorders (such as schizophrenia) in people with other risk factors, such as family history. Cannabis intoxication can also induce a temporary psychotic episode in some individuals, especially at high doses. Experiencing such an episode may be linked with a risk for later developing a psychotic disorder. A person’s genetics may play a role in this relationship. ...
Maternal cannabis use in pregnancy and child neurodevelopmental outcomes
... Using the provincial birth registry containing information on cannabis use during pregnancy, we perform a retrospective analysis of all live births in Ontario, Canada, between 1 April 2007 and 31 March 2012. We link pregnancy and birth data to provincial health administrative databases to ascertain child neurodevelopmental outcomes. We use matching techniques to control for confounding and Cox proportional hazards regression models to examine associations between prenatal cannabis use and child neurodevelopment. We find an association between maternal cannabis use in pregnancy and the incidence of autism spectrum disorder in the offspring. The incidence of autism spectrum disorder diagnosis was 4.00 per 1,000 person-years among children with exposure compared to 2.42 among unexposed children, and the fully adjusted hazard ratio was 1.51 (95% confidence interval: 1.17–1.96) in the matched cohort. The incidence of intellectual disability and learning disorders was higher among offspring of mothers who use cannabis in pregnancy, although less statistically robust. ...
Weed is anything but harmless, it's associated with stunted intellectual development and other maladies. If anything it makes people lazy, sensual, and addicted to pleasure which makes them degenerate and unable to do any hard work. Good times make weak men etc.
Weed and alcohol just amplify. Lazy people are just going to be really lazy while stoned. Ambitious people are going to zone in on their goals more when high. If you're sad and you get drunk you're going to be really sad same as if you are happy you're going to be really happy while drunk.
I went through all of my apprenticeship baked and have been the top journeyman electrician at just about every shop I've worked. My cousin is a master electrician and is so specialized with additional credentials there's literally less than 100 electricians in his state capable of doing what he does and the only time I haven't seen him stoned is when his safety guy gives him a 1 month heads-up that he has his yearly drug test 😂
My best friend has ADHD so bad he's able to concentrate better while high. He has a master's degree, a beautiful family, he's a great father and husband and made his first million stoned off his ass. I have other stoner friends from high-school who still work dead end jobs and live in their parent's basement.
The younger you start the greater the negative effects. It's probably like alcohol, some can handle it better than others. Never met a long term user with no negative effects in health, physical and mental, and in quality of life. Seems you are an anomaly. You don't say when you stopped or for how long you stopped. The stuff today is not the same as the stuff in the 70s and 80s - the negative effects are even more profound and show almost immediately.
I don't believe anyone under 25 should do it. Unless they are treating a medical issue such as epilepsy like my friends son. He couldn't function at 12 years old. Now at 22 he's a licensed plumber and productive. The stereotypical statement you made is false.
Not so fast. Well aware some medical conditions are served well with marijuana under the care of a health practitioner. Never spoke against it. Don't know your reasoning for your belief for under 25, but you are right. The body's organs and the brain are not fully developed until into the 20s - that is why the younger you start, the greater the negative effects. Same with smoking cigarettes or drinking alcohol.
Dunno about 25 but the frontal lobe of your brain isn't fully formed until you're 21 and marrijuana does affect growing minds differently than already developed ones.
I don't go to health practitioners, I have studied alternative medicine for 30 years and Pot is one of the herbs in the bible. The name is spelled different, it starts with a K. Most police will tell you that pot alone is not a big problem, stoned drivers are mostly annoying due to going too slow. And as far as committing crime, it takes 20 minutes just to decide who is going to the store for munchies. I had to get an IQ test and it came out 147, I smoke to sleep, due to a concussion that stopped me from falling asleep.
My brother recently died mostly due to his drinking causing so much damage to his body. He was always running his truck into stuff, and doing stupid stuff. I believe we should legalize pot if they want to keep alcohol legal.
And todays pot is way to strong and sometimes causes breathing problems for me. I get all I need free but I have to be careful if it is too strong.
Hmm, those who study and practice alternative medicine are health practitioners. Agree., Marijuana should be treated just like alcohol.
it takes 20 minutes just to decide who is going to the store for munchies
Now imagine it's not about going to the store for munchies, but a surgeon removing blood clots.
My only concern is daily users want to downplay the ill effects of marijuana with the tropes of knowing a millionaire or having a high IQ. Unfortunately I have never met such persons in real life. There are both mental and physical ill effects of daily and/or long term use. As for crime, it costs money. Thievery often accompanies drug use.
Yup. Today's weed, dab, et al, is not your grandpa's weed. Holy shit. It is designer weed cultivated and enhanced to be all the ways it is today. It also has massive amounts of chems and concoctions that are used to grow it. Buy organic if you can. Use with care, and the very young need help exercising some rational self control. Also there is no question that pot and cbd, treat physical and mental health issues phenomenally. But not recklessly applied. A relative with tourette syndrome, smokes every day and for no symptoms. If he doesn't, the tourette's is downright flamboyant and embarrassing for him.
If weed had not ever given me anxiety attacks I'd be using it to help with sleep, probably. Edibles at least
Lmao, that must be your experiemce. I just met a millionaire dude who smoked until he was 72. Quit on a dime so he could finish raising his granddaughter.
If unare a shit before u smoke MJ ull be a shit when u do it. That's all.
Maybe some people can get away with it ... but many many many people do not. Maybe he would have been a billionaire if he hadn't smoked. In any event, too much addiction to softness and pleasure creates weak men on the whole. Would you rather have an entire generation of men raised on pot or a generation raised on GI JOE and hunting grizzly bears?
It's kinda like vaccines, some kids are able to avoid the worst of it ... others get autism.
I would rather have my loved ones on weed than on on all these vaccines and medications. Statins, antidepressents, holy shit. Those are what are melting brains.
Exactly. In my experience, hungry, sleepy, cough, goofy, sore throat, and stink.
Don't know why, but any time I am in a Family Dollar, it ALWAYS smells like weed. As do the checkers. I could care less if they do it, but Dayum... the smell.
Regardless of the harms or benefits, your body belongs to you not to the government. Once you let the gov tell you what you can and can't put into your body you are their property and soon they will try to forcibly medicate you. We saw that with covid.
Telling you what you HAVE to do is vastly different than telling you what you CAN'T do. "You have to kill your wife" is vastly different from "You are forbidden to kill your wife".
I just added a big gravy-boat worth of sauce about marijuana's harmful effects under the opening post. Weed is bad news, causes a LOT of problems.
Not a lot of sauce on these comments. Does someone have actual data to back up all these weed is bad claims? Or do we use what our flawless mass media has fed us for generations? Talk to educators. Children born to these high intellects are lost. Congrats.
My dad was a college professor with many published works and certainly a genius level intellect. He smoked cannabis and didn't seem to have a problem. I have never heard of a person on pot only being violent, mostly just annoying.
LOL we might attack a bag of Doritos
Need more voters.
Student loan forgiveness. Millions of illegals/ new. DNC voters. Lowering rates next year so the economy looks better than it is….soon biden will be appearing in every black church and kamala will regain her black accent when giving speeches.
Fentanyl kills because of Biden policies. Pot is a sideshow. By the way, car accidents are up, kids are not parented…coincidence? Nope.
So what have you done with your clear head that some stoner hasn't?
I'm a stoner. I've never once voted for a democratic.
Same here
Really? All the people that I know, who are fast asleep, drink alcohol. In fact, they make fun of the potheads, but they're the ones who are more awake & into conspiracies.

Agree. The broad brush approach via one anecdote who is usually defined as highly successful or millionaire is amusing.

Yes obviously its different, but they both represent forms of control. Freedom is what made America great, not self righteous moralizing.
