Large herbivores were an integral part of the ecosystem across most of the continental United States. As many as 60 million bison roamed here before Europeans colonized the Great Plains. Our modern herd of livestock can easily be maintained here.
What could use some work is the way we use the land and soil to raise our livestock. I would love to see more sustainable ranching practices, such as returning some of the less desirable crop land to pasture. We raise grain to feed to livestock, but cattle did not evolve to eat large amounts of grain. They do better on grass. Producing cattle on pasture takes longer to bring cattle to market, but the trade-off is producers are able to eliminate inputs into their operation such as heavy farming machines, agricultural chemicals, and a portion of their fuel costs. There is also emerging evidence of the impacts farming chemicals have on farming families and on the environment.
Decades ago our Department of Agriculture sounded the alarm about world hunger. American farmers responded by ramping up production of staple crops such as corn and soy beans. We got so good at it we totally overshot the mark, so we started feeding our food crops to livestock. Why not just cut out all the extra work and let the cattle eat the grass which would grow naturally if we let it?
I wonder how huge a Brontasaurus or a T Rex fart would be. Climate change debunked. We need to plant trees by the billions. I don't know if they survive, but every time I see a tree on clearance at Home Depot, I buy it and go plant it somewhere that I think it will get water.
"Our food systems are harming the health of people and planet. Food systems contribute to over 30% of greenhouse gas emissions, and account for almost one third of the global burden of disease."
"Transforming food systems is therefore essential, by shifting towards healthier, diversified and more plant based diets."
Anyone remember electing this clown to dictate what kind of agriculture and diets are permissable?
I agree today's food on the Standard American Diet is bad. We should go back to basics. Chickens should be pecking for bugs, cows, sheep and goats should be able to roam and chew grass and plants. Humans should be eating beef, chicken, pork, goat, venison, fish, seafood that isn't processed into a slurry and shaped into a "fun" shape then breaded and fried. Butter, not margarine, heirloom fruits, vegetables and nuts not GMO anything.
Climate change is natural. Climate is always changing.
When he begins to eat three meals of worms a day then I might begin to believe he holds true to his convictions. Otherwise he can go pound sand. Let them stop using airplanes, cars, elevators and trains to travel. Barefoot and legwork should be their means of conveyence, not anything with oil products to produce combustion. I will stick to cows, pigs, and chickens for the majority of my food. Bugs, only when I am ten days starving and nothing is on the horizon.
I agree. They can fly with their constituents instead of flying on private jets or take the subway, or bus. They can have all the bugs, mill worms and any other stuff like that, I will take eggs, chicken, beef, any seafood and enjoy it all.
I made homemade low carb cranberry sauce today. It was delicious. I put it on my fried ham and fage yogurt. I am looking forward to trying it out on homemade vanilla ice cream. I will put it on the turkey I will make for New Year's Day.
Then these smug fucks should show themselves eating bugs daily, provide an appropriate weekly “green” diet, and stick to it - leading by example of that which they preach. It still wouldn’t work to convince the vast majority of people, but they would at least gain some respect points for backing up the ‘putting insects where their mouths are’ talk they’ve been pushing for the past several years

Fookin' Commie. What are you trying to do? Destroy Big Agra's profit margin and absolute control over the food supply?
Not my main concern, would just be an added bonus to all the other benefits.
Well said!
Let me put it mildly... Go fuck yourself Tedros.

Nice, would love to read a study population estimates of dinosaurs and expected CO2/methane production estimates of those.
I bet the herbivores had some serious gas production
When do we get a video of Tedros eating bugs?

Because beef and fat can heal and make you strong and think properly.
Chips, soda and candy aren’t killing us fast enough.
You are correct!
