'A Bunch of Dead Robots:' Frigid Chicago Temps Turn EV Charging Stations into 'Car Graveyards'
A surge of stranded electric vehicles, predominantly Tesla cars, has overtaken the Oak Brook Supercharger station in Chicago, as a severe cold snap renders many EVs powerless and immobile.
LOL at the Tesla-tards.
On the plus side, Tesla drivers can keep warm around a car campfire.
think the green new deal turned brown
💩💩💩
As each charging station requires the equivalent of 100 household, this is actually a really positive development for the environment and combating global warming
Anyone who has ever started a car in sub-zero weather knows it is hard on batteries. Plus a battery can handle only so many discharge and recharge cycles before it is weakened. It may still perform well on a 70 degree day but in zero below zero weather, not so much.
Especially if it's been sitting there cold all weekend. Batteries work on chemical reactions and those slow greatly in the cold, reducing their electrical output.
How dare you bring logical and practical discussion to this thread. What are you, some kind of racist?
(LOL)
No just someone who asks obvious questions like why Jews would climb out of a secret tunnel right on the sidewalk in clear view of everyone's phone camera.
Maybe same reason people have sex in front of cats… they assume the cat is too dumb to understand whats going on.

Are we having fun yet?

Holy sh*t!! That's one dark comedy.
"Leave The World Behind" with a rather old looking Julia Roberts. Interesting but has a cliffhanger ending. It's really about interaction between the cast members. But it doesn't put Tesla cars in a good light!
Yep.
Also, I don't think these Teslas had "overtaken" the supercharger station.
More like they died at the station.
LOL.
They need to keep the batteries warmed with nuclear radiation somehow until a better solution is discovered. Ya, I know the downside, but I really am not concerned about it. Only liberals are worried about a little radioactive fallout - studies show it actually boosts your immune system in lower doses.
Wouldn't that make electric car fires into dirty bombs?
Thank you for attending the discussion at the GAW, Mr. Fauci.
It would seem that electric vehicles & solar power should only be marketed in the geographical areas who have sunnier & warmer climates year round.
But not too hot! AC goes through batteries like crazy (so I've read).
Global warming (being sarcastic) Is killing 'THE GREEN NEW DEAL' as we speak, we shopped for a EV back in 2013 for my wife, she parked in a large parking garage with really small spaces ,so we went out looking for something small, wound up at a toyota dealership and she test drove a PRIUS (insert jetsons car noise) got back and i said how long does that battery last ,salesman said around 7yrs or so ,i said how much do they cost to replace ,he said around ten thousand or so ,we both said thank you BYE.
You can replace the battery pack in a Prius for less than $2k, it's even a DIY thing unlike an EV. Interestingly we have a Lexus CT200h which uses the same battery pack and no issues at ten years so far even in this cold. I know people with even older Priuses still on their original battery packs. NiMH batteries aren't as energy dense but last longer than Lithium Ion.
WELL ,THATS WHAT WE WERE TOLD BACK IN 2013
Should've done your own research.
This Winter will be the death of the electric car in the northern hemisphere.
Wish "global warming" would die too.
CNN headline today:
Scientism administered via fake news. Lol....these people are batsh*t crazy. 👍
So when the robots do take over, its nice to know their weakness is based on seasonal elements.
Surely they designed some method for the batteries to warm themselves up so they can accept a charge. Surely even if they were near totally discharged they implemented some way for the charger, once plugged in, to generate heat to do this. Even the weakest Supercharger is 72 kilowatts. One WATT is 3.4 BTU/hr, so that supercharger can crank out 250,000 btu/hr. As a point of reference my parent's just got a new furnace and it's 60k btu/hr. Obviously they're not going to create a heater anywhere near that size.
It does seem odd. I mean a smart guy like Musk surely would have foreseen this issue prior to building and selling these things?
Unless that's maybe 'the point'??
Maybe it was user error or maybe the temperature just exceeded whatever their design temp was.
...my parent's house just got a new furnace...
Fixed it for ya! (Which parent?)

It is entirely correct to say my parents gained possession of a furnace, therefore it is entirely correct to say they got a furnace.
My biological mother and father. They have been married, solely to one another, since two years before my birth.
