What are you talking about? My step brother lives there, he got out pretty fast due to his home being on the edge of the area. I watched the news nonstop coming out of there, especially from locals on twitter. My step brother sent me tons of links to different reports.
He recently told me that the count of missing people is only 4. The reason a few hundred kids didn't register for school is because their homes burned down and they moved to another part of the island and registered there.
There's an easy way to test this, look up the public school numbers for the island and find their registration numbers for this year. The ones in Lahaina will be down a few hundred, but those numbers will show up at the other schools where people went to after they lost their homes.

So, realizing we shouldn't trust our government surely parents or guardians of these children are speaking out and we should be able to get our own count of at least some of them. If we can't that suggests to me there aren't actually very many missing children.
