1775 Bible Shows Sunday as the First Day, 13 Months Total & March as the First Month
In the realm of historical curiosities, a Bible from the year 1775 has recently piqued the interest of scholars and enthusiasts alike. This ancient tome, notable for its unique take on timekeeping,…
13 months based on the lunar cycle makes sense. It’s not like the Bible uses hard dates, ie September 1. It’s not really hiding anything, it’s just marking time differently.
The lunar cycle is not a function of how many times the moon goes around the earth in a year (a little over 13), but how many times it meets with the sun in the yearly earth orbit. It is this cycle, relative to the sun, that gives us the shadow of the earth on the moon, and thus the "lunar cycle" of "phases" (shadow). This lunar cycle period is called the synodic month (synod means "meeting").
The average length of this lunar cycle is 29.5 days, which means there are only about 12.4 lunar cycles in a year. This is why we have 12 months (or at least it likely contributes to it), and why a "blue moon" (two new moons in a month, or four in one season, depending on who you ask) happens about once every two and a half years.
The Bible used "hard dates" many times. For example, in the telling of the Flood, exact dates, month and day, were given. When combined with the information in the Bible, synchronisms with rulers' reigns in various countries, and astronomical data, we can figure out exactly when a lot of things in the Bible occurred.
There were only 13 months in a year when an intercalary month had to be added to keep the year in sync with the seasons. Regular years only had 12 months.
And what are those exact dates of the flood again?
3170 BC is the year. The date is the 17 day of the 2nd month, Jewish calendar.
The dates are in Genesis, in case you've never bothered to read it.
The year has been carefully calculated based on the timeline in the Bible compared with reigns of rulers in various countries confirmed by astronomy.
That's not what "hard date" means. Why make up stories? This doesn't benefit Christians. It only makes you look foolish.
What does it mean then? The Bible gives dates. There weren't any rulers back then, so the year wasn't given as the ___ year of so-and-so. It was given in comparison to the ages of the men from Noah down to the time of kings in various lands. Synchronisms in chronologies that are fixed by history or astronomy allows the year to be fixed.
It's not a made-up story. There are proofs of everything. I can't write a huge book in this little box. You'd ignore it anyway and write TLDR, which is one of the biggest non answers. There is so much people choose to ignore so they can think that they are their own ultimate authority.
Actually, do what I did and go look it up in your Bible. I was wrong.
I stand corrected.
And starting a new month and season on the equinox (balance) also make sense.
Seems to be a more science based approach than what we’re using now.
True. Lets stay focused. Don't get forum slid.
52 weeks/ 4 weeks = 13 months
Calendars, both lunar and solar, have 12 months per year. Because lunar calendars don't follow the seasons exactly, an extra month has to be added occasionally, an intercalary month. Being solar, our calendar just has to have leap day added to keep the calendar in step. But in a few thousand years, there will have to be another tweak to our calendar, if we're still around then.
This article refers to "a Bible," but never tells which one. The cover page for the New Testament indicates one from Holland. What they do in other countries doesn't matter that much to us, especially back in 1775. I don't have any idea how anyone in Holland handled intercalary months or what the purpose of "a Bible" was. There were a lot of different Bibles being printed by 1775.
Sunday has always been the first day of the week. Saturday was the Sabbath from the very beginning. Sunday is not now, nor has it ever been, the Sabbath for Christians. The Catholic Church was dead set on quitting all Jewish things after Constantine.
BTW, the Catholic Church seemed so interested in the Crucifixion rather than the Resurrection, that they lied to everyone about when the Crucifixion happened to make Jesus' statement about His proof of being the Messiah wrong. Jesus said that as Jonah was in the belly of the whale three days and three nights, so would He be in the earth three days and three nights. By the Catholic Church telling us the Crucifixion was on "Good Friday," they shortened the period to one day and most of two nights, so barely one and a half day rather than three whole days. Jesus was actually crucified on Wednesday. People need to read what the Bible says and quit listening to the Pope.
Pagans used a 13 month calendar. It may have been the standard back then. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a concrete date in the Bible.
"Concrete dates" were used in telling about the Flood. The lunar calendars had 12 months as well as the solar calendars. The lunar calendars just had to add an extra month occasionally to stay in sync with the seasons.
What date did the flood occur on?

Check the Mayan Calendar. (Check out Peter Toonen) Fact remains that our society is functioning based on a system that is totally weird.
In a way, we lose a sense of natural time, while being very conscious about artificial time. This puts us in a bind. Living in a city does not make one conscious about these differences. But once you take a year or so, well, it becomes crystal clear.
The Moon Calendar of the bible is a derivative of the Egyptian Calendar.
A calender is basically nothing more than a system to register time. You don't lose time, as time is circular, AND linear.
Calenden was basically a Roman date, on which debts were paid.
This is a great video. Thanks for posting. Will love to see the conversation about this. I didn’t post because wasn’t sure the content was allowed for main feed. One to many repremands kept me from posting. Glad you did🐸
If we had no way to tell time, would we age slower? Would we age at all? Is time just imaginary?
Makes more sense to me. Older cultures still believe this (those who have some actual recollection). Women have 28 day average cycles This would make 13 mths. The 13 mths calendar theory is also the 13 parts to a turtle shell / lunar moon. When you break down the four seasons it eventually *doesn't match up correctly and the theory is because our seasons ain't split up properly.
Note: In the Philippines, they pay monthly salaries. At Christmas, they have to pay a 13th month since 4 X 13 = 52...
I’ve heard this - I think Clif High has referenced it. The idea it that having the months varied is an illogical way to design the calendar which is true —28/13 +1 - why wouldn’t it be that way?
Here's my dig on this: https://greatawakening.win/p/17siSewDBe/1328-364--resurrection-day-null-/c/
It appears that there were several big changes, but reported history has likely been manipulated. Post 783 BC ancient Roman calendar likely had 13 months (proto-Christian?). Post 45 AD (early Julian?) the year likely started with March, but might have been modified to 12 months. Gregorian switched to January as first month.
Unclear exactly where the 13 month got taken out, but I strongly suspect somewhere around 1485 which appears to be near the switchover from Old World Order to New World Order (mid 1500s?).
Careful. I’m sure they would love to have Latino History Month.
Amazing name anon, blazing saddles right? Kek
You got it! Great movie. Believe it or not, in the 4ish years of being on here you are only the 2nd person to ever mention it.
KEK!
The asymmetrical twelve month calendar means the moon phases have nothing to do with the months. The full moon is always a totally different time of the month. This is confounding and is a source of disconnection from nature.
The lunar calendar is 13 months x 28 days = 364 days total. How to resolve the missing day? New Years Eve is a non-calendar day, a special day for celebration all over the world.
