No, because this is a PARLIAMENTARY election, not a PRESIDENTIAL election. Would Joe Biden have resigned if Republicans took the House and Senate in the 2022 midterms? Probably not, because his position wasn't on the ballot.

I think too many people didn't read that this isn't a Presidential election, this is an election for Parliament. This is Macron's second consecutive term in office, so he isn't eligible to run in the next Presidential election.
Now, if hostile parties control enough seats in Parliament they can send him packing with a no confidence vote.

France is a republic iirc. The closest analogy in the USA to the elections macron just called i guess would be midterms.
I dont remember a president resigning whenever they lost the house/senate in a midterm. A defeat in the midterms would be a bad omen for the future presidential election and also make it incredibly difficult for the president to pass the legislation that he wants.

I'd expect the only reason you'd do that is if you expected to face a no confidence vote that you expect to lose.

You cannot judge European government by one country. Here in Denmark it is very different than in France or Germany. Sweden, has a similar system, yet still different, specially the election process.
