Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evolving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
What foods do you eat to fight inflammation?
ginger, salmon, cod, with rice, lots of greens, chard, kale, anything in the cabbage family, turmeric. For me it's more what I dont eat that helps a lot, no sugar, no wheat. Stopping gluten made a huge difference for me and pain in my joints. Hot foods , spicy foods can fight inflammation, it seems counterintuitive, but cayenne pepper and a good hot curry cools the inflammation.
Alkaline foods, like non-acidic fruits and vegetables. Avoid nightshades... and absolutely no honeydew melons, which triggers arthritis...
Acid in the morning (fruit) and none after 2pm. Vegetables anytime.
The body wants to be acidic in the morning and alkaline at night. Try not to fight it.
Avoid processed sugar... get your sugar from fruit.
Seems moot, but....no soy anything, no seed oils, no partially or otherwise hydrogenated oils, margarine, non dairy creamer (why do they refrigerate that swill?), avoid fried foods, HF corn syrup, white sugar, heavy acidic foods like tomato sauce, pepsi, drinking coffee that's been overcooked in a machine for hours...etc.
As a rule, I avoid soy, except in chips. 😢😢😢 Gotta give it up for myself and something better for my family. I need to make my own corn chips.
As a general rule, I avoid any food that's cheap. Real food costs real money. I only shop the outer ring of grocery stores... and real food never has a coupon.
How about tofu, as far as soy products?
It also helps to avoid food that cause it, seed oils are a big one, and in so much food.
I find sticking to olive & coconut oils and bacon grease/lard helps a lot
I avoid seed oils as much as I can, except for in chips, which are a weakness. I use the ones you have listed along with avocado oil.
Thank you!!!
Avocado is a another good one.... There's tasty potato chip that's cooked in avocado oil - they're called NY Chips I think. Who know what really in stuff tho these days.
I have tried Siete products and they only use good oils and other stuff. I enjoy them.
When I go chip shopping I will see if there are any good ones with better oil.
What is your favorite kind of chip?
I love corn chips. Love them. I wish I could find those cooked in avocado oil.
Garlic, Turmeric, Honey, Ginger, Natto
Mmmm!!! Thanks!!!
Some tips. Best to crush garlic and eat it raw with your food within 5-10 mins of crushing it for the most effect, but just using it for cooking works too. (Its very spicy when you eat raw, so be careful until you get used).
You can add Turmeric to pretty much any dish where you stirfry spices. You can also add turmeric to hot milk and honey with ginger and garlic (and any other tea spices you prefer) and boil it to make a delicious drink commonly known as golden milk.
Honey is most effective when eaten raw and only consume Manuka honey with high purity, otherwise its just sugar.
In addition, doing intermittent fasting, cutting off all preserved food and all sugary food and alcohol is probably the quickest way to fight inflammation but also get healthy and lose weight in general.
Pineapple is full of bromelain, an anti-inflammatory. Turmeric fights inflammation too. I had tendonitis/carpal tunnel syndrome in both wrists about 20 years ago and I learned a lot about natural ways to fight inflammation.
I usually take bromelain supplements, but had to stop last week for surgery. I will make more use of the pineapple and tumeric that I have to eat. I will add to this week's menu. Thanks!
