Anthony Johnson dodged a lifetime of hard slavery when the slave ship he was being trafficked on couldn't make it to the sugar plantations in the Caribbean and had to land in the English Colonies at Virginia. It was a huge stroke of luck, as the English had an aversion to outright owning humans, and preferred the system of indentured servitude, where the would-be slave was recognized as a free man after 7 years of repaying the man who bought him from the slave traders. In some jurisdictions it was 4 years. He was then given his freedom dues, which included farming clothes, farming tools, a mule, firearm and ammo, a FARM, a farm house, and his first year of corn seed. He was a freed man, and had the same chance of becoming wealthy as any white colonist.
In 1655 Anthony Johnson, having played his cards right was one of the wealthiest men in Virginia, with a huge farm and four servants, three Irish and one African. The black man, John Casor, had served his time and demanded his freedom dues. This didn't settle right with Johnson, who preferred the centuries-old African tradition of once a slave, always a slave. Casor had left and gone across town to work for a white man for fair payment. Johnson had him arrested and brought the matter to court.
Johnson and the judge may have known each other, due to Johnson's great wealth. The matter was decided: John Casor would be the first black man in America to remain a slave for life.
Soon this abomination would spread to other states, and the freed slave Anthony Johnson from Angola succeeded in bringing lifetime slavery to the English Colonies in 1655.
Anthony Johnson and his kind owe ME reparations for fucking up my country beyond recognition.
elwiptx may be speaking from knowledge of these events, when a black man could arrive on a slave ship and eventually become wealthy.
i can see why they would buy their own family members. it's sad that this even has a place in history. i couldn't imagine having a child and having a stranger be able to take it away.
No in 1830, 1,976,214 slaves were owned by white people and 12,907 slaves were owned by free negroes (not slaves). Most of those slaves owned by free negroes were family members.
Edit: Shill can downvote all you want, it doesn’t change the truth.
That is because you will find that all of our presidents are actually related one way or another down the line.
Even princess Diana was related to George Washington and others:
"George Washington is an eighth cousin seven times removed, and through the wife of an eccentric American great-great-grandfather, Diana is related to Presidents John Adams, John Quincy Adams, Calvin Coolidge, Millard Fillmore, Rutherford B. Hayes, Grover Cleveland and Franklin D. Roosevelt.
If you go back far enough, pretty much everyone's ancestors practiced slavery. It was not uncommon in antiquity, and it wasn't limited to any single race or culture.
True, or not true - I cannot be held accountable for what my parents or ancestors did. I had no choice in the matter. I simply appeared on earth, in the same manner everyone else did.
I am responsible for my choices, decisions and actions. And I can guarantee you that not all of those choices, decisions and actions have been wise.
It's the same chosen few who've enslaved humanity since at least Babylon. Not only do they head politics, but majority of media (digital, print, paper), Hwood, healthcare/pharm, finance/banks, education...
it's a bloodline thing. 'they' were never going to allow us to be free. i read the USA was a test. 'they' were hoping it would fail, proving to the sheep that they did indeed need a ruler. their test failed miserably.
Would explain the shift to individual responsibility (Jamestown).
"Due to the aristocratic backgrounds of many of the colonists, a historic drought and the communal nature of their workload, progress through the first few years was inconsistent. By 1613, six years after Jamestown's founding, the organizers and shareholders of the Virginia Company were desperate to increase the efficiency and profitability of the struggling colony. Without stockholder consent the Governor, Sir Thomas Dale, assigned 3-acre (12,000 m2) plots to its "ancient planters" and smaller plots to the settlement's later arrivals. Measurable economic progress was made, and the settlers began expanding their planting to land belonging to local native tribes."
Kamala's family were slave owners. All these men are chose by the elite. Only DJT45 came out of nowhere to become President and BOTH parties did everything they could to defeat him---and we know WHY!
in 1830 13.7% of negro's (3,776) were free. They owned 12,907 slaves of the 2 million slaves owned in the US.

So, in 1830, 1,976,214 slaves owned in the US were non-negro?
sounds like the free negro's themselves owned negro slaves? that's the way i interpreted elwiptx statement.
Yes most of the time, free negroes bought their family members as slaves, instead of letting them get bought and sold to a white-owned plantation.
i can see why they would buy their own family members. it's sad that this even has a place in history. i couldn't imagine having a child and having a stranger be able to take it away.

Like Faucahantis if you go back 10 generations we are ALL connected in some way.
I have seen that all presidents except DJT are related to King John of England, 1166 - 1219 AD
NO SHIT Sherlock!
Interesting that the MSM would point that out about Trump, they could have just left that out
This is the original article from Reuters: https://www.reuters.com/investigates/special-report/usa-slavery-lawmakers/
PS Simply we were a slave nation at that time.

Hey, I guess that makes a total re-write of history possible. And don't tell me--Obama's family had owned slaves in the past? I said don't tell me😅
Trump is going to be the the first real president since 1871.
Is a real president required to bury their nose in the wall?
Lol... people get butt hurt, but he should be put to task.
