It was entertaining at first, as it brought back memories of what seemed a more innocent time. However, knowing what I know now, watching the baby killers and sick fucks being interviewed early on in their careers made me sick to my stomach. IMO, that show oozes, to paraphrase George Carlin "it's a big club and you ain't in it" kind of evil!

I like watching old shows also for the reasons you mentioned. I sometimes wish I did not know some of the junk that I suspect now. I have started watching Perry Mason shows to the point that I bought all 271 episodes.
Perry Mason reruns are my go to in several situations.
Didn't every show end up with someone in the courtroom standing up and saying, OK OK I can't stand it any more, I did it.
Naw... Yur thinking Matlock.... haha
What it showed you was, that in those much more simple times, the stars easily pulled the wool over our eyes, and they were having a great time mocking us while doing it. It was easier then. The internet has either saved the world by letting us see through the wool or the internet destroyed the world for the same reason.
True dat
I watched reruns of Red Skelton (33 degree Mason) & saw the sexual innuendos (Use comedy to bypass a person's moral standards)
Comedy is funny because it's true and relatable.
Everyone knew then. Just like everyone knows now, even if they pretend they don't.
Knowledge was forced into hiding after WW2 when morality became a government project instead of a relationship with our God. People stopped telling their children things that were true because they might be implicated as "the bad".
I watch marathon's of The Twilight Zone. A lot of them are much better than what we're living now. KEK!
I watched the first episode and at the end I recognized mkultra. Couldn't get past that episode knowing what we know now.
My Aunt and Uncle never missed it. I used to spend the night with my cousin on occasion and when Johnny came on, we knew it was time to go to bed.
It's such a mixed bag. What you missed is YOUR innocence. At least that's how it is for me. At first I was angry that they stole my memories - I loved old film reels (Super 8 for boomers) of Betty Boop and Mickey Mouse, etc. I was blessed to grow up in a house where my parents were firm but loving and it was such a great childhood. Now I just accept that beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I saw those things as innocent because I was innocent. And that's enough for me.
Sometimes streaming old shows calms me. Living this life is hard and we all need to have our escapes
Netflix are one of those groups did a lifetime story on Johnny Carson. It was very touching and sad actually. Looking back now, maybe this is the reason why he was so depressed. Because he knew. He knew how evil Hollywood was.
One thing I can say about detective, legal, and, uh, detective/legal-adjacent shows even in THIS century is that pedophilia and human trafficking are taken seriously as the crimes they actually are.
I'm thinking The Closer, with Kyra Sedgewick in what's probably her best role, Shark, with James Woods, and Lie To Me with Tim Roth in probably HIS best role, if slightly over-the-top in places -- Lie to Me is also interesting as it's "inspired by the training of real-life deception detection expert Dr. Paul Ekman" per the show website (and various articles) and especially in Season One provides presumably true details of the science behind Ekman's work.
I watch Wagon Train, Gunsmoke and Rawhide...I'm old.
Mrs. bigsix was watching Family Affair until she noticed Buffy's red shoes. Then we looked it up.and found the actress overdosed and died when she was about 18yo.
I remember Carson put a One Eye picture over his desk in 1984 to remind everyone what George Orwell predicted in his book how Big Brother was watching us. After a few weeks, his audience wanted it taken down because it looked creepy. Sheeple have never been able to face the Truth!
About 10 years ago, my wife and I watched every episode of Little House on the Prairie and then The Waltons. When we started watching, we lived in a normal house on a small lot. By the end of the last episode, we were living in the woods completely off-grid. Those were good times.
I tend to stick to Little Rascals.
It’s Sanford and Son for me
I am a fan of Adam-12.
Oddly enough, you will see, (over the course of the series), 6 or more "George Floyd" treatments being applied to "perps". Reed will do this more than Malloy, but they will both subdue perps this way at times.
Have you seen the Trump and son spoofs? Wish there were more.
Have not seen them.
Carson & Rickles are both Masons & have done the "handshakes" many times on the show.
John Wayne movies aren't worth watching anymore for the same reason (Mason)
the only "old" shows I can enjoy anymore is Carol Burnett / Mama's Family & Barker's Price Is Right, along with the original Twilight Zone.
my mom still watches Andy Griffith & LHotP.
