i knew this one. but i just looked up a map of oklahoma, and now i have a whole slew of other questions.
TIL... Miami is the capital of Ottawa (wtf), El Reno is the capital of Canadian (wtaf) and Guymon is the capital of Texas (this one is a true onomastical nightmare)
and i thought Kansas City was bad....why are you guys like this????
πππ I bet folks named a lot of places either after a local tribe, or a place they knew from somewhere else. Some are creative like "Bug Tussle". I'd like to know the background of that town!!! Oklahoma had a land rush in the late 1800's where people literally raced across the state and staked claims. I think there was a lot of independent growth at that time that didn't fit any kind of modern planning model. πππ
There's also the Nebraska pan handle and the real brain twister is the Texas pan handle, that is vertical, north/south. But hey, Fahrenheit and feet and yards and such! kek
Think of it more like a funnel handle. The funnel is the long FL peninsula, the handle is the skinny section at the very top to the left of the funnel.
Same with Oklahoma. Only the small thin section is the panhandle the big section of the state is not ;)

Any idea how they handle a projected dead hit? Are the majority of troops evacuated inland for safety? Do they ride it out in underground bunkers? Curious if anyone knows.
Panhandle? We're fine here.
LOL canadian here I always thought the "pan handle" was the entire part of florida that looks like a pan handle.
Yeah, the "panhandle" is west FL like Tallahassee west
as another canadian, i declare that this makes zero sense. but good to know π€
Oklahoma and its panhandle make a lot more sense! ;-)

I think it's more of a urethra.
Omg. Thatβs funny!
This is what's referred to as "The Panhandle"
Correct
Us from the Panhandle refer to the rest of the state as the wang.
LOL.
what's going on here? it's called:
WEATHER MODIFICATION WEAPONIZED AGAINST POLITICAL OPPONENTS
if that weren't bad enough in itself (it's well beyond treason)...
...it's being done to protect pedophiles and child traffickers from prosecution.
you can't hate these people enough.
Drugs are bad...
tell that to whoever named the different parts of florida
Exactly LOL.
Gulf Coast looks like a dead shot.
My aunt and uncle live in fort Myers. They moved a bit inland just before the last huge hurricane hit or they would have been goners.
Now they're staying put because all they got last time was some wind damage and heavy rain.
I told them this is different and to come home but they're staying.

Milton is still far from hitting land. Thursday / Friday looks like it may 'arrive' (projected).
