Laurel Canyon might have been a Hippie Stronghold back in the day, but the Doors played their own music and it wasn't manufactured by someone else! I've been to a Doors concert and they played real live music! Frank Zappa was a really good guitar player and was ahead of his time for music! I had his dad, as a substitute teacher, on several occasions at my High School in Ontario, Ca. Laurel Canyon probably produced all the make-love, not war types that became tree huggers and nut cases in California! Men who got their draft classifications and went to war, because their country asked them to, were discriminated against and laughed at because of their short hair when they returned to California! Believe me, I know! BTW - Every AirPort or shopping center you visited in California back in the '60s had HollyChrishna's trying to give you poppies and get you to join their communes!
I heard a story about someone who was at an Ozzie Osborne show. There was a tent off to the side and at one point somehow it fell over, revealing a guy inside who was singing for Ozzie.
I do t know how widespread that sort of thing was/is but I know almost nothing “live” on tv is actually live. I’ve heard of legit musicians who fought tooth and nail to be able to actually play live, rejecting the canned performance.

I remember going there as a child, but oddly enough… It burned down in a fire with my grandfather in it. He was a journalist. I've been to a Black Sabbath concert at the Hollywood Bowl, and Ozzie was singing without help from someone behind a curtain!
