Nation States are the People, Culture, and the society they produced. As much as it is anything else
It seems a really Philosophically difficult sell to separate the people and culture, from the Nation State. And keep them as two distinct entities.
For if the Nation State is Sovereign. Then are not the people who created it Sovereign as well?
I do think the threat of tariffs on Canada was not about economics or even border security, but to topple Trudeau, who was teetering but still standing until Trump blindsided him with that, then the Governor quip, then let's make Canada a state. Trudeau's entire party panicked, saw their beloved leader in the new light of reality, and realized they had to cut themselves free of him. Yes, he would have been voted out later this year, but Trump must have thought he needed to accelerate things.
If Nazis got to Antarctica and possibly set up a base. They sure as hell went to Greenland and the Arctic.
Unless they were after something (ancient?) already there in and unique to Antarctica. I'm not sure about GL, but there are parts of Antarctica that are obfuscated on satellite maps, even though it is supposedly a non military, international, scientific community.

If the US imposes proper tariffs - and why should anyone have free access to US markets when they don't reciprocate or it's negatively impacting the US? - a lot of countries are going to be in for an economic shock. There's going to be some negotiating.
I'm not sure Greenland can stand on it's own. The people might actually have an interest in becoming a state. If not, they are going to need a lot of help. Assuming they manage to establish a decent economy without subsidies, they will still be vulnerable to any country wanting to take over.
I read that Denmark supports them - even the seal hunting and fishing industries.
