If they don't speak English, it's considered as a communication problem / disability by Social Security and can qualify them for benefits. They have to speak and understand English to be naturalized. If they've been here several years with no attempt to learn English you know that is not their desired route. Companies who care about these people have to actually hire translators to be able to speak to them.
Unfortunately, despite the Founders debating the issue, and English being the language in which legislative, judicial and administrative processes - including naturalization procedures - are conducted, English was never declared to be the US' official language. (HUGE mistake, IMHO)
It would seem that MANY of those who are here legally but don't make the effort to learn English (ex. many legal immigrants' parents and grandparents [some of whom are very elderly]) don't ACTUALLY desire to be in the US or assimilate into American society/be Americans, and are likely ONLY here because of "family ties".
Should they learn English? Yes.
Would learning English make their lives here easier/better? Most likely.
It's legit not there, but somebody changed "go to home page" to "go home."
Why stir the pot like that? It's really unnecessary. However, I'd love to see phone messages be in English without having to choose it as a language. I'd REALLY love to see speaking English be a condition of citizenship. How about we make it the official language? Oh, nevermind...if we end up adding entire countries to the United States. Is this not all weird beyond imagination?
If I were moving south of the border, I would learn to speak Spanish. It just makes sense.
How is it controversial to require migrants to speak the official language?
I've worked with a lot of Mexicans over the years. I found that the ones who speak English are easy to connect with.

I lived in a border town. 75% didn’t speak English.

Should they be forced to learn English? (?)
KING LEVEL TROLLING
I want Trump to sign an order that in America everything should be English Only.
All legal immigrants in prior generations of my family learned English right away.
No more catering to Spanish speaking people. Speak English!
