Zinc/Quecetin
🧐 Research Wanted 🤔
Ok I have been taking Quecetin and extra Zinc since Covid. My wife is suddenly concerned that I do not need to be taking as much zinc as I have 50 mg in the Quecetin and 50 mg in the Zinc daily. Should I scale back the zinc?
No need to take more than 50mg Zinc daily, especially if you have been taking it on a regular basis. I would continue to take the Zinc and Quercetin at the same time though.
Chronic overuse may result in copper deficiency, anemia, reduced immune function, and lowered HDL ("good") cholesterol levels. Prolonged high intake (above 40 mg/day) can also impair iron utilization and interact with medications like antibiotics. Extremely high doses may cause severe toxicity or even be fatal.
That is excessive zinc, assuming you manage to absorb 50% of that in your GI tract (the absorption differs per type of zinc compound with zinc oxide being the worst) more than 25mg/day and your body won't absorb copper properly which leads to a copper deficiency. Also too much zinc and you can burn through your magnesium faster than normal meaning you need to supplement more magnesium. I ended up dialing back my daily zinc as I got tired of constantly trying to rebalance these issues.
Also don't take zinc and calcium at the same time, the body always prioritizes calcium over iron and zinc which is why multivitamins are so inefficient. Spread them out at least an hour or so.
FYI I don't even bother with quercitin anymore since I take NAC anyway, they're both zinc ionophores but NAC also is also used by the body to make glutathione as needed.
NAC for upper respiratory issues like a lingering cough and the positive effects on the liver are no joke.
Anecdotally, the past couple years I've consumed more alcohol than I'm proud to admit. Not daily, only on my days off from work but excessive amounts. I took NAC the whole time and my bloodwork results showed my liver was in great shape. I accredit it to my consistent NAC use (I've also recently stopped the excessive boozing too).
It's also safer to have the body make it's own glutathione as needed by supplying the ingredients, it is possible to have too much antioxidants and cause other issues. Plus only liposomal glutathione can get in without being destroyed in digestion and that's more expensive than NAC.
If i feel upper resp hitting i take nac and zinc. Usually 2to 3 days it kicks whatever is trying my system.
You're ok with a 20-25mg Zn dose a day and 500mg Qcn.
Yeah - true. I buy the 50mg zinc and break them in half. 25mg is fine.
Yep this is why pill cutters exist in the first place.
The zinc depletes a mineral starting with C I can’t remember what it is. I want to say copper ?? Anyone else remember?
Edit: it’s either chromium or copper I can’t remember
Copper. More than 25mg/day of zinc and your body for some reason just stops absorbing copper. Copper deficiency is very underdiagnosed as well (especially as our food is poor in copper from soil depletion), one of the first symptoms is premature greying of the hair which makes me wonder how long I had it since my beard started going grey in my 30s. I take a weekly trace minerals supplement with copper and chromium and my energy levels improved.
That's still too much copper, you're off by a decimal point. Sounds like a recipe for copper toxicity.
Thank you I knew someone here would know.
Thank you! I knew someone here would know.
We give our goats a copper Bollis annually for parasites. Works great.
if not sick 50mg max zinc daily
Zinc (picolinate is best) works best with D3, K2 (MK-7 is best) and Magnesium (glycinate is best). They all need each other in order to work and help keep things in balance and direct things where to go. You only need 50mg of zinc a day technically otherwise it'll be bad times eventually like the other comments say if you actually absorb enough of it. Getting vitamins from a good diet is best and preferred and not to be forgotten while considering supplement amount intake.
50mg is still too high, 25mg would be plenty as you can't ignore what you're getting from food. Get a pill cutter if you can only find 50mg pills.
That is why I stated...
everytime I take zinc, i throw up.
Probably too much, especially if on an empty stomach. Any time I try to take it without food it's a stomach ache for sure.
Yup, too many supplements without food or plenty of water is a bad time for sure.
Yeah supplements are for making up a shortfall or smooth out variations in intake from food, not to compensate for a shitty diet entirely.
Pills or liquid? I tried the liquid way back when and it was awful.
Pill. It doesn't hurt my stomach, there is just no warning as it comes up my esophagus. It's weird.
I take quercetin and zinc only when I feel something trying me. Usually only need one or 2 doses.
Once a week ivermectin is safer
Daily…50 mg Zinc, 250 mg Optimized Quercetin, 2000 IU D3, 2,000-4000 mg Liposomal Vitamin C. Onset of flu like symptoms, double the daily dose (2x day). If persists, Ivermectin should kick it. 200 lb male (can I say that?) D3 during the short days, will supplement the lack of sunlight…
No point in wasting money on the extra cost of liposomal, vitamin C is already a very easily absorbed vitamin. I just buy bulk powder and put a tiny scoop (1/32 tsp) in one of my water bottles.
Fun fact: Oysters are the highest Zinc food. If you like those it's probably more bioavailable than suppliments
You only need a tiny bit of zinc. Zinc picolinate appears to be the most effective form for the Quercetin/Zinc or EGCG (green tea extract)/Zinc combo [Zinc Ionophore Treatment].
Quercetin opens up the cell, injects the zinc, zinc destroys the polymerase replication enzyme.
My experience with EGCG is to double up the EGCG, but do single dose of Zinc Picolinate. This knocks out all cold, flu, viral symptons in 2 hours (fast metabolism).
