You'd be surprised at how many cartel enforcers served in US SOF. So not only were they trained they were active.

That is not what you stated. The USSF trained many people from Latin American countries that joined cartels. That does not mean that the cartels have members IN the SOF. Back in my day, it was extremely difficult to get into any SOF. It hasn't changed since then. The SOF members are extremely vetted.
Of course, there might be some former USSF that went mercenary after there time in the military. That goes with any branch. The amount of money that the cartels can throw at someone is insane. I can see where a few members would go for the cash.
Its doable. In Indonesia they have Densuss 88, a counter terrorism task force formed after the Bali bombings. They hunt Muslims, all of them a Christian. No Muslims allowed and that in a Muslim country. They can figure out who is who. In fact Mexico already has some pretty shit hot teams that are not corrupt.
