In wet snow the water seeps up the legs. It is very cold and gets your long johns wet.
If you want to talk alt ski wear - if it starts raining on the slopes, but you are not willing to stop skiing, a hefty bag is the outerwear of choice.
All of these work and if you are doing them you are skiing and other people are NOT.
