Welcome to General Chat - GAW Community Area
This General Chat area started off as a place for people to talk about things that are off topic, however it has quickly evolved into a community and has become an integral part of the GAW experience for many of us.
Based on its evolving needs and plenty of user feedback, we are trying to bring some order and institute some rules. Please make sure you read these rules and participate in the spirit of this community.
Rules for General Chat
-
Be respectful to each other. This is of utmost importance, and comments may be removed if deemed not respectful.
-
Avoid long drawn out arguments. This should be a place to relax, not to waste your time needlessly.
-
Personal anecdotes, puzzles, cute pics/clips - everything welcome
-
Please do not spam at the top level. If you have a lot to post each day, try and post them all together in one top level comment
-
Try keep things light. If you are bringing in deep stuff, try not to go overboard.
-
Things that are clearly on-topic for this board should be posted as a separate post and not here (except if you are new and still getting the feel of this place)
-
If you find people violating these rules, deport them rather than start a argument here.
-
Feel free to give feedback as these rules are expected to keep evolving
In short, imagine this thread to be a local community hall where we all gather and chat daily. Please be respectful to others in the same way
Rules For the rest of the Site also accessible on the sidebar.

Romans 8:18
18 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.
It just seems like the 'present time' encompasses most of life. I feel morbid longing for death. Throw me a bone, God.
Sorry to hear that, and I understand, but YES most of life is nothing compared to eternity.
🙏🦴
Yeah really at least my pissass refund check. Hurrup, IRS.
I'm experimenting with AI programs and I have more feedback to present:
Claude (free version):
Honestly, not that impressed. The showstopping negative point is its limited message rates that hard-cuts me off whenever I exceed it, and the rates are very restricted, more restrictive than Grok. It prevents me from using it for the creative brainstorming sessions I tend to engage in.
Another negative point is that it actually has a hard limit on how long a chat session can be before I am forced to generate a new chat window. This means that I can't just brainstorm nor generate whole chapters without having to generate new windows, and the ideas do not automatically carry over, which means wasting time and energy to force the AI to remember.
The third negative point is that if a prompt to generate text violates some nebulous ethics policy, the AI will refuse to cooperate and will not generate text. This is in stark contrast to Grok, which has very little restrictions, and ChatGPT, which is actually very tolerant on what text content it will generate (if there is a potential problem, ChatGPT will point it out, but will still comply and give me the text.
Final Verdict: I'm sticking with Grok and ChatGPT for creative writing sessions.
Claude is very powerful for more complex coding tasks, like editing multiple files in a project or making coding changes while keeping project guidelines in mine, but only if you use its API in a dev environment like Cursor.ai etc.
Oh, and when you do this, you will eat through your credits in no time. I used up my initial free credits all in 2 days.
So, upshot is, its great for coding but too expensive and I stopped using it.
Grok is hands down the best AI platform for most things - be it brainstorming, coding, editing code, doing research, current affairs, analysis of documents etc etc.
I have never used it for multi file code editing, but I am assuming if you buy the API access it would do well.
Yo!

Someone posted a meme a day or two ago about the DoE’s budget being something like 280bn with only like 45bn going to actual education.
Somehow I lost track of that meme and don’t see it by search, does anyone have the link to it and possibly sauce on those numbers?
Sounds about right to me. Roughly six to the evil ones and one part to our children. Grift all the way!!!
Sounds right, gambling was legalized in California, by promising all proceeds will go to education. Not, the children have to bring their own TP. They got rid of lockers and shut down the shower rooms, so if a child has PE early, by the end of the day, they stink. Newscum said he was looking into cutting $500 million more from education. And it is real hard to homeschool here.
It will be so nice when POTUS and the team fix it. Q said watch California, so I am trusting the plan.
Being all equal and independent, no one ought to harm another in his life, health, liberty, or possessions.

Charles Haddon Spurgeon March 8th — Evening Reading
"She called his name Ben-oni (son of sorrow), but his father called him Benjamin (son of my right hand)." — Genesis 35:18
To every matter there is a bright as well as a dark side. Rachel was overwhelmed with the sorrow of her own travail and death; Jacob, though weeping the mother's loss, could see the mercy of the child's birth. It is well for us if, while the flesh mourns over trials, our faith triumphs in divine faithfulness. Samson's lion yielded honey, and so will our adversities, if rightly considered. The stormy sea feeds multitudes with its fishes; the wild wood blooms with beauteous flowerets; the stormy wind sweeps away the pestilence, and the biting frost loosens the soil. Dark clouds distil bright drops, and black earth grows gay flowers. A vein of good is to be found in every mine of evil. Sad hearts have peculiar skill in discovering the most disadvantageous point of view from which to gaze upon a trial; if there were only one slough in the world, they would soon be up to their necks in it, and if there were only one lion in the desert they would hear it roar. About us all there is a tinge of this wretched folly, and we are apt, at times, like Jacob, to cry, "All these things are against me." Faith's way of walking is to cast all care upon the Lord, and then to anticipate good results from the worst calamities. Like Gideon's men, she does not fret over the broken pitcher, but rejoices that the lamp blazes forth the more. Out of the rough oyster-shell of difficulty she extracts the rare pearl of honour, and from the deep ocean-caves of distress she uplifts the priceless coral of experience. When her flood of prosperity ebbs, she finds treasures hid in the sands; and when her sun of delight goes down, she turns her telescope of hope to the starry promises of heaven. When death itself appears, faith points to the light of resurrection beyond the grave, thus making our dying Benoni to be our living Benjamin.
This hit real close to home. Thank you for your posts, ashlanddog.

God is in control.
There's a fundamental difference between knowing something intellectually and recognizing it as your very being.
Let me illustrate this with a story that perfectly captures this truth:
A lion cub was raised among sheep it bleated like a sheep ate grass a sheep and thought itself to be a sheep.
One day an adult lion saw this peculiar sight and roared with laughter the Cub frightened tried to bleat and run away, the adult lion caught him and dragged him to a clear pool of water & for the first time the Cub saw his own reflection alongside the adult lions.
In that moment of recognition, something profound happened. The Cub didn't become a lion. He simply recognized that he had always been one.
This my beloved friends is exactly what must happen to you. You are not becoming God; you are recognizing that you have always been the very expression of God himself. This is why scripture declares,
know ye not that ye are Gods?
I thought THIS was interesting. I had to look it up. It's true.
Don't take this literally, except like this. The image of God, being Triune, is found in our being: Body, Soul and Spirit. The likeness of God refers to our intellect, which is boundless. What have we created in the world? No other creature has these two gifts, and we must be mindful of them and not misuse them in evil ways. That is all.
67 years of conserving on everything you can think of, and I am sick of it. Can't wait for our Golden Age.
Happy... Birthday?
Not yet but thanks. I am talking about what they always have brainwashed us with. Conserve water electricity, gas, food, etc. I watch farmers conserving water when they have completely full wells and the ground so saturated that coffins and empty swimming pools surface. This is the first year I have used all the heat I want, I haven't been able to get my power bills above $400.
