In the modern use today it's merely a category of person, a criminal type who does not respect proper decorum. It is a subset of people and for that category of person the word applies and carries weight, which is socially useful.
Using it on someone who is not in that category is a slur and out of order, but for someone in that category, it is an appropriate rebuke. We rebuke to improve behaviour by lowering someone's status so they will improve their behaviour to regain it.
If someone is called that, and they are acting the stereotype at the time, it is perfectly appropriate, and it's use in that context could actually improve the world.
If someone does not like being called it, they should start acting lawfully and with proper decorum, then the word will fall out of use naturally. At the present time people think they can act up, be a criminal, be disorderly, but the one word with impact is not available as a rebuke? This is madness. Shiloh exposed the madness and the crowd agrees.
Better behaviour, better parenting is the answer, so the word is never called upon. The answer is not to punish those that use it in the righteous way Shiloh used it.
I disagree. It’s a racist slur, no matter how used, just like honkey, cracker and wetback (to name a few) and all the other slurs created specifically as a label for a certain race. There are assholes, b$%tches, and bratty children in all races, and to use racial slurs, at any person, in retaliation for their actions, is merely a sign of ignorance and racism, period. It is not justified, no matter what, and to then reward an ignorant, person by sending money to her? Bottom line, a non racist person doesn’t have those words in their vocabulary.
while the use of a particular racial slur is horrible, is it made more horrible because of the color of the users skin? does one need the overall permission of a particular race of people to be able to use such a word? is it allowable for one race of people to use it freely and liberally, especially in front of another race of people that are socially forbidden from using such word? if you object to one person or race of people the ability to use a word from the english language, than you need to object to ALL uses of that word from ALL people regardless of race or background. that is what equality is about. I will also note how we cannot even use this word here, even though no one really knows what race we belong to, just assume we are of the wrong race...
