The criminals now know what's waiting for them and, whether guns are legal there or not, will likely get a gun and shoot the guard lion or poison it, 'same as they'd do to a guard dog.
He's more likely got a game farm....So should be fine but anything can happen, they are after all wild animals.....
I'm not sure if this is the same farmer, but I suspect it is...ππ€£π€£π€£
Free State farmer taken in for questioning after the lion he is using to protect his farm eats three farm attackers, leaving no evidence behindβ¦ohhhβ¦just a pair of sandals and a belt were left on the spot
Generally that doesn't happen to people who look 'after' lions. The lions accept that person as ok.
My FIL often tells the story of encountering a pride of lions (in the late fifties), and parking the car. Then a little, skinny black dude came cycling down the road. They warned him of the lions. He replied:
"That's ok, I am government boy"
He then proceeded to cycle riiight past the pride, which didn't even react.
Lions on preserves sometimes become very friendly with their keepers. I saw a video of a keeper who had a habit of coaxing a lion to lie down on its back, so he can raise its hind feet and massage its paw pads. The lions love it and ask for it. These relationships are magical, and hint at what is possible between the children of God and His creatures.
Hilarious! Outstanding! Magnificent! I am a big lover of big animals and, far from finding this deplorable, I find it amazingly intelligent and compassionate. If you know a lion is prowling the premises, you will rightly conclude this is not good for your health and walk on, to live another day.
Yeah, you can kill a lion with one shot. Teddy Roosevelt did it all the time. But you need the right rifle and ammunition, the right expertise, and be in luck. The first shot will sound the alarm. A missed shot may not give you any opportunity for a second one. (Hard to cock and aim when your throat is in his jaws.)
The lion looks like he is on very good terms with the owner. Like my 15-lb orange tabby, except 25 times larger. This is also why the farmers raise boerboels, huge bull mastiffs. (Zambians are terrified of them, from their reputation. Kind of like super-pitbulls.)
My wife managed to save a litter of puppies from a mother BoerBoel that had been beaten to death by fearful Zambians. She lavished special care on the runt of the litter who was starting to flourish, but it contracted parvo and didn't make it. All the others were adopted into good homes. She is also a member of the local ASPCA equivalent. By her account, the puppies were adorable. Pretty good turnaround for someone who, when I met her, thought of dogs and cats like livestock.
I get along well with all animals I have met. Twice in my life, I have seduced guard dogs into letting me pass them in their company. May you continue to be blessed.
Ok that was a movie, but if you have a couple or more dobie's, they move fast, and are silent. They do patrols on their own and you don't have to cage yourself from them. Not saying a lion is cool af but it can be a bit much to handle and feed..

So the lion likes him...and others not so much....
My Rottweiler likes me and hates everyone else but runs like a coward from everything... I'll have to defend him and my property with guns if SHTF.
At least he alerts me and let's me know when I need to arm myself
Stay armed. At least get a pocket gun like a .380 to help you get to the real weapons.
Hopefully, his new protection won't turn on him or any of his family members.

Did you see the SA's version of the bAbylon BEe? They did a mock article about some dudes getting eaten - leaving only a belt or something.
Good boy.
I'm a bit jealous. I'm too chicken shit to chance it, but I would have loved a pet lion.

A few Doberman's could do the trick and less risky.. lion is cool though
In one of the Rambo movies, they sent two dobermans after Rambo. Didn't end well.
