Stress and hormones are certainly a big factor, again, there are many... but I wonder if it is possible for someone to actually have a significant enough caloric deficit over a significant period of time without any result? I would find that very hard to believe.
I learned from Walter Veith long ago that your body needs to go at least 14 hours without eating in order to start using stored fat for energy. I stopped my nighttime snacks habit and lost 30 pounds over 30 weeks to get to my healthy weight and I've stayed there for 10 plus years. No starving myself, no food restrictions or suffering.
How many obese people do you know who exercise yet somehow stay obese?
I will say after watching my girlfriend lose weight by changing nothing but going to therapy, stress and hormones are a huge factor.
She eats right, sleeps, and works out. And yet, the weight didn't come off until after months of therapy.
Just imagine the hormonal imbalance caused by all the crap that food companies put in our food.

Stress raises cortisol. Cortisol raises blood sugar. It especially causes mid-section fat deposition.
