About the USS Jimmy Carter.... Check out this video. Also, some of you may remember from several years ago the Jimmy Carter returning home to port flying the Jolly Roger flag, indicating success in the face of confirmed contact with the enemy . The entire crew later received the presidential medal for Valor. This submarine is an absolute nightmare for the enemy... it's almost as long as a football field, and unlike other Sea Wolf attack submarines, it has an entirely different mission. Even if you know nothing about military or the ships or whatever, definitely check this out
Watched the video and seems like this is a unique submarine designed for very specialist tasks such as interfering with enemy comms or infiltration of special ops forces.
I can't figure what it might be doing in the current Venezuela mission. If enemy undersea fibre-optics needed monitoring then it would make more sense to have that done some time previously to have it in place already. If special forces needed launching into the mainland then why not more safely send them from a surface vessel since there are so many already present.
I'm just speculating that it's the USS Jimmy Carter but, the Seawolf submarines are also extremely capable against surface shipping comment which would help if trump decided to, say, blockade Venezuela. And it also has quite a few Tom Huck missiles of board as well which means it can really reach out and touch cartel targets deep in enemy territory
Recon and intel gathering to generate firing solutions and target lists for surface combatants, for itself, or for later precision airstrikes certainly is something that would precede actual conflict.
If things are heating up to the extent that we are getting press stories about Maduro's posturing and threats, its a place that SSN-23 would be very valuable to have in the locality.
Great video, he has a lot of good ones imo, hopefully we have a replacement in the works or a sister ship, that even fewer people know of. "Loose lips sink ships"
I think I’m leaning in your direction here, it is a socialist shithole. Would not surprise me if they blame thier failings on US special operations though
I always forget how relatively close Guantanamo Bay, Cuba is to both Panama and Venezuela. I also like how Haiti is wiped off the map with XL DR (ref only obviously). Airplane cartoon is over Puerto Rico (US territory), directly north of Caracas.
Nobody has said anything period not officially period this post is only speculation based on what I know about America's preeminent special forces specific tasks us submarine
Despite what Mom might have told you, violence does solve some problems (like cartels that behead people). If it didn't, countries wouldn't need militaries.
Which kind of war do you hate? War against other countries or war against the deep state ... because the cartels there's no difference between them and the deep state
Israel for last
Please catch up... we are at war and trump is a wartime president
Unfortunately this (sometimes) is a dilemma that can only be resolved with controlled violence, or pin point accurate “punches” to take the “frogginess” out of a character displaying “bad form” behavior…
Unfortunately we live in a world where violence has become the norm. Our current administration understands the language (unlike Mr. Potato head bribem who may have but elected to respond with: “Don’t.”)
As abhorrent as violence is, sometimes Teddy Roosevelts “Big stick” has to be broken out of its case and used from time to time. Only this time, that stick is even deadlier and stealthier with a lightning quick striking force when deployed.
The concept of “Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.” is applicable. Maduro has elected to play a very stupid and painful game. Ask Noreaga (?) of Panama how that game goes…..
This administration is definitely ANTI-WAR but is also not stupid and understands that the best insurance policy for such is to have a STRONG DoD coupled with the willingness to use it as necessary IF and WHEN all other diplomatic measures do not attain the desired results. The primary purpose of a strong DoD is to protect a strong border and the safety of its civilian population against adversarial threats. In this case we are looking at a drug kingpin dictator (Maduro) whose socialist govt has failed his constituents as he is enriching his own net worth at not only his country’s expense, but also the USAs as well.
So yes. The Trump Administration is ANTI-WAR and is giving the vast majority voters what they voted for: Peace through strength with God (Christian values) back at the helm.
The power outages may be the result of cruise missiles fitted with a special warhead that explodes a casing of carbon fibers, which can settle over an entire electrical substation and short circuit all exposed wiring for power transmission. I learned of these decades ago. Kind of like remotely pulling the power grid light switch to the "Off" position.
As a former munitions expert (EOD & ESO), This is a weapon system that I am not familiar with being in our weapon system inventory. Not saying it isn’t possible, just that I’ve never seen or worked with it in my tenure with the DoD (active duty & civilan) but I do find it a highly interesting concept. R & D work at amazing speeds and this may be a new system.
Hint: laser development might be an alternative here. It was being hotly pursued and developed for many different applications during my tenure.
I recall hearing about the electrical infrastructure warhead in the 1980s at work. It would have been a fairly straightforward development, just explosive and carbon fiber. It would have been typical to keep it classified, once placed in the inventory. I never heard of it since that time. Sometimes weapons go from "This is a crazy idea. Will it work?" to "Wow, it works great. Let's keep it in reserve."
Laser weapons have been in development since the early 1970s. At that time, there was some interest in replacing the tail gun position on a B-52 with a laser installation, but the technology wasn't ready, and the idea was set aside since the tail gun had been taken out of service anyway. In the late 1970s, a NKC-135A Airborne Laser Laboratory (ALL) had been modified with a carbon dioxide gas dynamic laser and dorsal-mounted pointer-tracker for experiments in air-to-air weapon operation. During this time, the Air Force had been conducting its "wavelength love affair" (as I call it) by supporting experimentation with different laser beam generation technologies (gas dynamic laser, HF/DF chemical laser, electric gas discharge lasers, iodine chemical laser, and solid-state electrical lasers) moving from 10-micron wavelengths to 1-micron wavelengths. The YAL-1A was a program to develop a system that could intercept theater ballistic missiles, and it demonstrated the capability required---but was canceled and scrapped by President Obama. There were other significant mission applications for that class of system that were bypassed.
“I recall hearing about the electrical infrastructure warhead in the 1980s at work. It would have been a fairly straightforward development, just explosive and carbon fiber.”
We had at one time a weapon system in inventory that operated similarly known as a “CROW” ( Continuous Rod Opening Warhead) basically it would form a circular saw like rod that was designed to cut or shear through targets while in flight. It could have been adapted or modified to produce the infrastructure damaging weapon you describe.
My impression from what I was told is that it was not a particularly monolithic shaped warhead, but a fibrous casing made from very long strands of carbon fiber. The explosion would expand the casing, separate the fibers, allowing them to settle where they may over so many square meters of target area.
Not exactly the power grid per se. More likely specific substations or transformer complexes. It could add up to the same thing, considering how serious it is for everything to be in synch.
How was that detected, because that question actually matters period consider how we detected our theory that rods from God were used against the sites in North Korea... They actually physically discovered U238 in the air via sampling
The site in North Korea was a test site. It subsided and the airtightness of the detonation cavities was compromised. U-238 could have been a tamper component of some of the nuclear devices being tested. Or a residue from the enriched uranium used in the fission primary. (Enriched uranium is not 100% U-235.)
It is not at all likely that it was "rods from God." That concept was only an idea put forward by Jerry Pournelle. There are too many difficulties for its realization, and the assumed damage mechanism (total conversion of kinetic energy into thermal energy) has never been observed in the use of depleted uranium as tank-penetrating artillery rounds. Just good penetration. No developmental history. And the system would need to be a global constellation.
With all the respect, absolutely not... U238 is the weapons form that you get after enrichment coming which indicates a highly advanced and sophisticated nuclear weapons program
I'm not sure what you mean by your comment. Enriched uranium has a high content of U-235. Raw uranium has a very high content of U-238. Depleted uranium has a reduced level of trace U-235, which makes it slightly less radioactive than raw uranium, and preferable for use as ballast weight.

That would be "SECRET SQUIRREL" in Military Parlance!!!!!!! But, YES, it is a VERY BADASS Submarine!!!
Very cool cats! Thanks 😊

I think you mean to say "Tomahawk" missiles (BGM-109).

It wouldn't surprise me if power outages in Caracas are just a normal thing, no operators needed.
The power outages in Caracas are just like the power outages in Cuba or California.
I think I’m leaning in your direction here, it is a socialist shithole. Would not surprise me if they blame thier failings on US special operations though
Haha I think this is actually a good comment except, let's face it, Venezuela has been running pretty much under the radar
One light, if by the land; two lights if by the sea!
3 if by Navy SEAL!
"You may be cool. But you'll never be 'Seal team riding the outside of a submarine's cool!"

Isn't it a bad idea to publicly announce where your ships, subs and planes will be during an operation? Unless this is misdirection of course.

As someone who is anti-war and expects an anti-war administration, this is concerning.

Precisely.
Violence is never the answer, war is never the answer, Christ is King.

How was this necessary?
Well at least this time the regime change is an extraverted expression of American power
Carter.
Are they still planning to drop Stacy Abrams into the water at the coast and start a tidal wave?
Manuro is fooked.

That’s a plausible weapon design. Short-circuiting the power grid. No EMP required!
Not exactly the power grid per se. More likely specific substations or transformer complexes. It could add up to the same thing, considering how serious it is for everything to be in synch.
I saw a video last week about how there’s abnormally high amounts of radiation in the air in this exact region, suggesting bombs or something

You are correct. I misread your post.
Red October ran without sound. Interesting.
M y understanding is that Venezuelan crud is so bad it takes a specialized refinery to process it.
