I am seeing elsewhere this: Oral argument set for December 2025. Nothing was overturned to establish any new precedent yet.
The Supreme Court granted 6-3 stay allowing Trump to fire FTC Commissioner Alva Slaughter. Chief Justice John Roberts issued an administrative stay on Sept. 8 while the high court considered his emergency appeal, but did not overturn Humphrey's Executor precedent.
Yes, I saw this also, wasn't sure if it's because the ones I saw that say "nothing was overturned" where from left leaning media and that's why they are posting that, I don't know.🤷‍♀️
HOLEE SHIZZLES ‼️Something AMAZING just Happened!
🚨 The Supreme Court just Overturned a 90-YEAR PRECEDENT, Expanding Presidential Power Over Independent Agencies
The Supreme Court just overturned “Humphrey’s Executor” (1935), a 90-year-old precedent that protected independent agency leaders from presidential removal without cause.
The 6-3 decision, grants President Trump and future executives SWEEPING AUTHORITY to fire heads of agencies like the FTC, NLRB, and SEC.
This was prompted by a series of aggressive firings of Democratic appointees from independent agencies by President Donald Trump shortly after his January 2025 inauguration.
That's the problem with coercive Power in general -- it's never used for GOOD for long (largely because initiating coercion is itself a crime). Corruption and evil creep in until they OWN the Power completely.
Prime example: USA 1776 to present. We're turning things around, but to the extent we leave Power in place of civil society, the turnaround will be temporary.
Humphrey's Executor is a 1935 Supreme Court decision that is foundational to the existence of independent federal agencies and their Senior Executive Service (SES) employees. The ruling affirmed that Congress can create regulatory agencies and limit the President's ability to fire their leaders to instances of misconduct, rather than allowing at-will political removal
The title is somewhat fake news.
On September 22, 2025, the Supreme Court took a step toward potentially overturning the 90-year-old precedent established in the 1935 case Humphrey's Executor v. United States. The Court agreed to hear a case regarding President Donald Trump's authority to fire leaders of independent agencies and allowed the firing of a Federal Trade Commission (FTC) commissioner to proceed in the interim.
The real question is why Supreme Court Justices voted against? These people are supposed to be apolitical and make decisions based on law and understanding of the Constitution.

In these situations we need to look into primary source. Scotus decision
Sorry but this is overstated. The case has not yet been resolved, just stayed.
Yep, these misinformation clickbait X posts are annoying. The SC only said she will remain fired while they hear the case.

In the future, if the libs ever regain the presidency, they will use this decision to restore their entrenched power.
If I had to guess, by time this presidency is over, there won't be heads to have power over.

There's a plan in place, they'll never get back in power.
Then i guess we better make sure tjey never do. Leaving this undone keeps us under their paradigm.
Ain’t quite the spoils system but it’s a start
"Humphrey's Executor" was a bad decision to begin with. There is no such thing as an Independent Agency within the government, except for SCOTUS.
Our Government has 3 branches. Independent Agencies tried to be the fourth branch, unaccountable to anyone.
The “keystone” is fucked.

Wow this is huge news. Thanks for tagging me!
YW
It's not a done deal just yet though.
Read what u/Beemerchik has to say in this thread.
Still, very good news as it is 6-3. Bodes well for what will hopefully go down after December.
Most of them should be dismantled.

Awesome. A CEO who can't fire deserving people is only a figurehead.
