You're really going to tell me that an air traffic control person, is the type to take small local jobs, as if those would be able to support them?? Do you know who these people are? Most of them that took the time off ANYWAY, like TRUMP SAID, literally went on vacations and shit. I am grateful they stayed and worked, but they were going to get compensated for the work anyhow. I would have worked too, just because you are going to get paid. Back pay is an issue that's pretty unfair. Why should person A in job government job A need to work with out pay and then get back pay when person B in government job B not need to work but also receive back pay?
Be careful here. Paying a bonus to air traffic controllers and not to other essential employees is setting one group of employees against another. For instance, planes can't fly without FAA inspectors (who are also considered essential). Will they receive the bonus as well? How about someone who had leave scheduled long before the shutdown began - will they be considered as actively working during the shutdown? Lots of questions here, and morale is very low and frustration levels are high at the moment. If you handle this wrong, you may lose a lot of those air traffic controllers and aviation inspectors when there is already a critical shortage.
