Hyphenated American

There is a problem with the epidemic of hyphenated Americans. That is, putting ethnicity before nationality in a sense. Of course, there is nothing wrong with being proud of your heritage, whether you're an Irish Catholic or a Nigerian Christian, but putting that identity over your American identity is a problem. You are an American first.
Notice how there are no African-Canadians?
Canafricans? Africanadians?

Hyphenated-Americans aren't Americans. They're at most, U.S. citizens. There's a world of difference, and actual, red-blooded, birthright Americans don't even have to be notified of this. It's already a part of the Fiber of our Being.
If your a hyphen, your not American, you're a guest.

Speaking of hyphens. Look at all the female Olympic athletes. Every one has a hyphenated last name. Lol

Thats the correct way to say things. If a person said they were an American Mexican, I would assume they were here illegally. If someone said they were an American African, I would assume that they are an American living in africa. It is more reasonable to put the specific ahead of the primary term. To say, I am 'this specific type of' American. Let the down-voting commence...

True. Those are fine examples. But, usually in english the 'specific' goes in front of the 'general.' Latin, spanish, and greek are the opposite. So, I want to use an animal as an example. Let's use the rat snake. If we say rat snake we know that we are talking about a snake, but, if we reverse it and call it a snake rat, now we are talking about a rodent (there is no such rodent). But, maybe the point is that we are Americans. America first, Americans.
