POTUS can't. It isn't his dinner. The White House Correspondents' Association puts it on every year. He can, however, just skip it like he has up to this point. They have traditionally invited the POTUS every year for about 100 years now.
I do wish he would skip it though. No other POTUS has skipped all 4 years of their term, and he could set the bar high by skipping 8 of them.
Skipping it is the best option then.

Simple solution.....pull their invite letters. Let them stand outside at the main gate, hopefully it will be raining, and then let them protest.
They used the word forceful, that would be incentive enough to pull their invites, using force in a protest to shout POTUS down? But should they do that it would RP even more viewers.
Freedom of the press is great. But everyone should be held accountable for their freely-taken actions. If you knowingly publish lies, you should be aware that there will be consequences.
Trump, like any true American, loves freedom of the press. He's doing much more than other administrations have ever done to protect free speech not just here but in Europe, where the 1st amendment doesn't exist.
