All four crew members ejected safely, a Naval Air Forces official said.
Two US Navy electronic warfare aircraft collided mid-air during a demonstration flight in Idaho before crashing to the ground. All four crew members ejected safely.
The incident took place during the Gunfighter Skies Air Show at Mountain Home Air Force Base. Video from the scene shows two EA-18G Growler jets flying in close formation at low altitude. At one point, the aircraft collide and appear to become entangled before both stall and spiral toward the ground. The pilots eject just seconds after the collision, with four brightly colored parachutes visible in the sky.
we taxpayers do NOT approve of such shennanigans. we can have airshows without this waste of resources... and potential loss of amazing pilots. lets try to put a few more inches between 2 vehicles travelling at 500 mph, shall we??
Standard fingertip is 3 feet. That should have been routine. Looking back, I was always impressed by the balls of the WSOs that flew with me. To not be in control and just have to trust me. Especially with the big bullets flying by or outmaneuvering multiple missiles shot at us. Good times. Not for the faint of heart.
That second video is a little clearer. It looks like the lower plane tilted the right wing up at the exact wrong moment as the upper plane was coming in exactly over it. (Or the upper plane was supposed to tip up it's right wing and didn't). Mighty damn quick reflexes of those pilots to eject -- God was watching over them.
Bigtime $$ lost in that crash, yes, but the most valuable assets -- those amazing pilots -- were not harmed and in the end that's what matters most. I've been to several of those airshows (decades ago) and would encourage anyone who's never been to attend if they have the opportunity to do so. "Impressive" doesn't describe the maneuvers these pilots perform -- awe-inspiring is more like it. Yes, occasionally mistakes are made and these types of incidents occur, but the margin of error is so slim it's a wonder they don't occur more often.
Lives are more important than cost of the loss of jets. Our government has squandered more money on illegals, funneled more money to corrupt NGOs, frivolous stupid scientific experiments, NATO, Ukraine and the WHO, as well as over staffed government jobs where workers sit and watch porn all day.
I opened that show once upon a time. Four ship, very very low, 3/4ths afterburner and 0.99 Mach. The Wing Commander said that it better be F***ing impressive. He got his wish and then some.
The hard part is that the clip is so short. It looks like the wingman is joining up, except everything is wrong about it. Including that the wingman loses sight of the leader under his (?) nose. I have done a lot of extreme overtake speed join ups (300+ kts) and everything looks wrong in this case.
at no point am I unconcerned about the air crews. nice to know they survived. my point in asking what it cost us is why are they using these versions of the aircraft in an airshow? how do you show off the capabilities of an electronic warfare aircraft in an airshow? there is a reason the ea6 prowlers were NOT used by the blue angels at any time.....

God is Good.
Thank God the pilots are safe
My heart stopped when we watched this...a TRUE MIRACLE from GOD! ☝️✨🙌
Weren't they building a Qatar air force base in Idaho? Or was that Montana?
The Men who Engineered the ejector seats, are saving the best of lives.
Not sure those are the best but at least they are safe.
Doubt they keep their wings after that one.
That video is crazy.
Yeah...Guardian angels working overtime!

Exactly. Ridiculous. But we'll get the invoice next tax season. And everyone will eat it up

Is it mating season for F18’s?
how much did that cost us?

That doesn't answer the question. But along those lines, how much do "air shows" cost in terms of money AND in terms of lives?
Haha, you're right. Some people can be real dense. I agree this is a waste of taxpayer money and could have been a waste of lives.
Human lives are invaluable! ✨
glad the crews are ok, but those electronic warfare jets cost alot more than fighters....
That is a very bizarre collision.

You must know what went wrong with this incident then.

I am inclined to agree. Navy aircraft for electronic warfare are not really for air shows are they?
What is really going on?
Navy aircraft...in Idaho?
Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) Acoustic Research Detachment located in Bayview, Idaho (on Lake Pend Oreille).
Some say they can pilot a sub all the way out to the Pacific from there...
The mosr you be knowin 🌈 an sheit 💩
Thank you!
