Thereis no reason for these visas. There are plenty U.S. citizens to fill the positions. Amazon just laid off thousands to make way for H1B visa holders.
Amazon is also importing cheap Chinese crap that kills American small business. American consumers also share in the blame here for putting up with it. We need to do better.
They have no clue what is and isnt a violation of labor laws, have no family to tell them what is and isnt and so will just take whatever the company does to them.
How can 53K Hindus be better/smarter/harder working than your average college grad? We don't have those numbers of workers to fill the positions? Sum ting funny about this deal.
I respect both of them, but they're wrong. Maybe being billionaires has insulated them too much from reality - I don't know. But if they don't fix this it's going to bite them in the ass in a future election and stain their legacies.
Maybe, and I mean maybe, if the economy was booming and unemployment was at rock bottom with job participation at record highs, then it would be acceptable. But we're so far from that right now it may as well be a fantasy.
It's a vicious cycle. To save money, these corporations hired foreign workers. Many times making Americans train those foreigners that replaced them. Then young Americans, when they know in advance they will be muscled out of those jobs by foreigners, do not pursue those particular careers. Why should they? Then those companies holler that there are no Americans to do those jobs when they are the very ones that created those conditions to begin with. Evil bastards.
Wayne County, MI here. Ford Motor Company is the biggest applicant in my county with similar numbers (over a ten year span) and that's just ONE county!
From a legal, corporate standpoint, why should businesses NOT seek out the least expensive hiring opportunity if it can (theoretically) do just as good (if not better, theoretically) of a job?
Would anyone really boycott Amazon.com for hiring H-1B?
Isn't Amazon more or less a global company now, even if "home base" is the US?

Amazon has always been one of the biggest offenders of replacing Americans for their bottom line.
EXPOSE IT WIDE!

It is hilarious that people have accepted that "we're the 3rd largest country in the world by population" and "we don't have the talent here".
So either
Trump has 2 more years ffs. It's balls to the wall soon or we are done. If this board starts blindly backing Vance I'm going to puke.
Right, not much has been done. It seems like people are still coping when Trump hasn't followed through on his promises
How dare you!
Is Amazon saying there are not 53K Americans who are qualified for those jobs or does Amazon not want to pay American wages to the Hindus?
Those foreign workers are also less likely to complain about working conditions and violations of labor law.
They have no clue what is and isnt a violation of labor laws, have no family to tell them what is and isnt and so will just take whatever the company does to them.
That's why companies like Amazon want them instead of Americans. Disgusting.
Do u seriously not get that this is not a out cheap wages or skill? Its about importing non native species.

They're shockingly stupid and die in ridiculous ways.
The visa issue is strangling the economy for Americans, in some places worse than others.
This undermines the USA
Trump and Elon say we need H1-Bs though...

This crap is all by design. Oh I detest these Oligarch Megalomaniacs SO MUCH!!
Agreed.
I can tell from the Amazon drivers I have that cannot read the sign telling them where to place my packages!!!!!
He's not going to stop it, remember he came right out and said that we needed the street shitters here.
So we have 50 million illegals still here and we r bringing in more , im sorry, im pissed !
So, Amazon doesn't have to pay the H-1B worker minimum wage?
