At one point he said he was going to get rid of DST and go with permanent standard time. This is not what I voted for. As someone with a sleep disorder, this will have a permanent negative effect on my life.
Not really. Standard time aligns with natural solar noon. It is what is most natural for human. The guys who are trying to make DST permanent are doing it for tourism aka greed.
So the biannual change does not affect you more than a standard that does not change would?
That is hard for me to believe, though I would love to learn more about the specific disorder you are talking about. I am not a lawyer, though I wonder if it could be an ADA type of thing that cannot be discriminated with your job, so you might just be able to hit work an hour later & use the Americans with Disabilities Act to meet your sleep requirements.
My job already accommodates it. Just because you don’t have a rare circadian rhythm disorder doesn’t mean you should doubt people who do. Look into how DST affects circadian rhythms in general. It’s not a good thing.
I probably should have written that as more of a trust but verify response. I need to do better at that, I used to take that approach all the time when I was younger & it served me well.
That said, I would hope many of this board are aware of how the transition to DST disrupts circadian rhythms, though it seems current recommendations are that we should shift over the course of a week by 10 minutes each night to prevent the effects for most individuals.
I was wondering if there was a neurological disease, that made it specifically worse to be locked into that later time vs the earlier time?
I am sorry it is so rough for you, I have some conditions that have made life terribly hard for me to function the way I had 20 years ago, though I am hoping that with proper work & treatment I can get back to a semblance of normalcy.
I am thinking this announcement was more along the line of comms than anything else.
If a state legislature is willing, it should be able to be ignored. Arizona doesn't recognize it.
Maybe because that is the way God made it, and why do we as "men" have any need to tinker with what He has made? The earth and the people on it got along just fine for many thousands of years with things that way.
Nope. The railroads created standard time and the time zones for the purpose of scheduling. Before the late 1800s, every town in the US had their own local time based on local determination of solar noon. Almanacs had tables so you could tell what time it would be in other places compared to local time.
And before all that people were using sundials for thousands of years. And noon was noon at whatever spot when the sundial hit a certain spot. If you know your Bible there are many references to things happening according to the time on a particular sundial..
I wonder if this was a comm? Half the people & they don't want to take kids to school in the dark?
Now I wonder what Intel agencies were doing when this was set up in the US? I know that farmers at the time despised it & the claim was that it was done to help farmers & their children to be taught in schools. Well at least that is what my grandfather & his farming buddies had claimed.
The constant changing of clocks is designed to keep people confused and dazed. Once you establish a consistent sleep pattern you become very energetic and is one of the key reasons why you can live longer a quality life.
That works on both sides of the equation, actually. And how many of these things happen early in the morning? The perpetrators are usually in bed by then getting ready to sleep through the day.
I want permanent standard time and just use GMT to standardize worldwide commerce.
BTW, standard time was invented by the railroads for scheduling purposes. Before that, every town had their own local time. Almanacs used to have tables telling the difference between local time at various towns across the US.
There is no law telling stores and companies what their hours should be. They can open and close regardless of what the current clock says. For example, farm related businesses ought to open at sunrise, regardless of time. Farmers work during daylight hours.
There is no law telling stores and companies what their hours should be.
Might want to change that a little bit. The first ones that came to my mind are the Texas "blue laws".
I won't put all of them, but a few are - Liquor stores can only be open between 10am and 9pm Monday thru Saturday. They must be closed Sundays, and on Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Day. If the last 2 fall on a Sunday they must be closed on that Monday.
There are also laws on beer and wine.
One of the more esoteric laws deals with the percentage of alcohol by volume in stuff like Cooking Sherry. That one hit me one year the day before Thanksgiving. My Sister-in-law was visiting and she was going to make sherried carrots. I went to the local grocery store around 11pm to buy a small bottle of cooking sherry. I found what I needed and went to buy it but the computer register denied the sale. It turns out the amount of alcohol was higher than the percentage allowed to be sold after hours. I couldn't get it the next day because they would be closed for Thanksgiving.
The night manager came over to chat and I told her what happened. I often talked to her because I usually shopped about 1am and always saw her - she was a sweet old lady in her 70s. She verified everything, grabbed the bottle, and put it in my side pocket. I told her I can't do that and she said to not worry about it. I ended up buying one of those "tag" things some charities sell for donations at the register and paid the amount of what the sherry would've cost. The manager told me she was going to pay for it the next time she legally could. It was only like $3.50 or so anyway.
That is a good example of the govt making a law and not considering the side effects it will inevitably have.
I don't know about liquor stores, as I've never been in one. I do know that convenience stores didn't close when the beer and wine hours quit. They just locked the doors on the coolers so no one could even get to the beer and wine. Texas, if that's so, is unique in the US. BTW, I worked in convenience stores for a few years. The doors didn't have locks, so we had to run chains through the door handles. Also, the first store I worked at closed at 11 PM anyway, so we only had to chain the cooler doors on Sunday. Eventually those rules went away. This is in NC.
Days open has zero to do with Standard Time anyway.
I guess we all have our preferences about standard v DST. Imo, school starting early doesn't really work for anyone but the ones whose aim is to create obedient drones who get used to doing shit we don't actually want to do. Teens have brains that don't function well that early, anyway. If the issue is that we don't want our kids going to school in the dark...start school later.
The teenage brain is biologically wired differently when it comes to sleep and alertness, particularly in the early morning. This isn't laziness—it's a well-documented shift in circadian rhythms during puberty.
Why this happens: During adolescence (roughly starting around puberty), two key biological changes occur:Delayed melatonin release: Melatonin (the hormone that signals sleepiness) is released later in the evening for teens—often around 10:45–11:00 PM or later—compared to younger children or adults. It also stays elevated longer into the morning.

Circadian phase delay (also called "sleep phase delay"): The internal body clock shifts later by up to 2 hours. Teens naturally prefer later bedtimes and wake times. Their brains build up sleep pressure (the drive to sleep) more slowly, making it harder to fall asleep early and easier to stay up later.

This means many teens are still producing melatonin (feeling sleepy) when forced to wake up for early school or activities, leading to grogginess, reduced alertness, and impaired cognitive function in the early morning.
Courtesy of Grok. So yes, obviously, parenting is the number one factor in how our children function in this world. Each child requires a unique style of parenting, so a blanket statement that being un-gentle with your offspring is the way to go misses the mark, and opportunity for a different kind of relationship is lost.
I just want whatever time is going to prevent children walking to school in the dark. It's dangerous for them. AND I don't feel that school should start that early anyway but that's just a personal peeve.
Seriously?! I don't know where you live, but I haven't seen kids "walking" to school or anywhere else, for that matter, during the day. Many if not most, school districts have kids being bused to school and the bus will stop right in front of their friggen door. They don't even have to walk a block to the bus stop! Sorry, but your analogy is false.
My local elementary school is within walking distance of our house - it's part of our neighborhood - so they do not bus. Last year we had a child in Columbus get struck and killed in the darkness because the car didn't see them. AND the buses for the farther away schools (middle, junior high, high school) don't stop at the door, they stop at the street corners and the kids walk from there.
"Your analogy is false." What the fuck ever. Just because something isn't true in your little part of the world doesn't mean it isn't true in mine.
I want permanent time, but not the wrong time.
I hear you.
Agree… standard time all year is what most people prefer.
Yep
Nope
Not Me!
Why don't we all just start our day an hour earlier and go to bed an hour earlier?
At one point he said he was going to get rid of DST and go with permanent standard time. This is not what I voted for. As someone with a sleep disorder, this will have a permanent negative effect on my life.
I am fine as long as we do not keep changing time and clock.
If I had my way one Earth rotation would equal 28 x 3600 seconds. It is 4 a.m. as I type this. I am supposed to be in bed by midnight.
Quite the self centered point of view.

I would rather it be Standard Time.
Most of the people prefer standard time for some reason.
Maybe because that is the way God made it, and why do we as "men" have any need to tinker with what He has made? The earth and the people on it got along just fine for many thousands of years with things that way.

This makes sense. Time zones as created make some locations off. In relation to sun overhead at noon.
And before all that people were using sundials for thousands of years. And noon was noon at whatever spot when the sundial hit a certain spot. If you know your Bible there are many references to things happening according to the time on a particular sundial..
God didn't make clocks 🙄.
Yes, but did make the everything that clocks try to delineate. They do so in quite poor fashion I might add..🙄🙄
All fall short
Because natural noon is 12:00 standard time.
I wonder why Trump isn't listening to the people on this one?
Daylight Saving Time...Dark To Light.
Amen

I had a summer job at a textile factory with rotating shifts. I couldn't sleep well the whole summer. This was in 1972.
I want the normal time not the saving time. It is ridiculous plus I know we are giving more time to the demon disciples to work against humanity.
That works on both sides of the equation, actually. And how many of these things happen early in the morning? The perpetrators are usually in bed by then getting ready to sleep through the day.

Kid brains function when parents parent!! Gentle parenters produce kids that can’t function no matter what time it is!

My son’s high school had a start time of 9 am for this reason. Teen brains need more sleep.
I think we need to consider that school as we know it may become very, very different than it is now.
It has to.
So far there are like a couple of states that dont practice DST and they seem to be getting along just fine. So im good withe getting rid of it also.
so whats this gonna mean anyway
Mean we don't *f with the clocks.
I just want whatever time is going to prevent children walking to school in the dark. It's dangerous for them. AND I don't feel that school should start that early anyway but that's just a personal peeve.
Agree. There is no reason schools can’t adjust their times for the seasons. Schools are local and individual communities can decide.

Ugh, no! I hate daylight savings time. It's not supposed to be light out at 10pm! I don't live in Alaska, ffs. DST is the worst.
No, no, no! Standard time, not this BS Daylight Savings. It saves NOTHING!
Split the difference- adjust the time by a half hour in each direction.
