Europe had indigenous tribes and peoples right?!? Some of them are mentioned in Roman and European history. And still some groups that are recognized, as living more in their traditional ways.
Many groups and tribes converted to Christianity. Their DNA has been inherited. And then the modern Nation State came about, subsuming many small principalities and regions.
But many regional costumes, customs, and foods still exist . . .
