Dude I'm definitely not going to say i don't appreciate not having hurricanes. Hell my storm shutters probably need replacing at this point but I digress. Im not saying weather patterns don't change, i work in aerospace so im well aware of the shifts in environment. A year or two is a shift, 5 years is odd, ten is cause for concern. Even stranger is how often storms form and then dissipate with no explanation. Im not going to be a pretend meteorologist but they're wrong most of the time anyway 🤣.
All I'm saying is I feel something has changed, i also feel like it will be coming back with a vengeance. That is what scares me.
That's the thing though it's not. Ive lived in the same area for 34 years of my life. Yeah every summer was hot as hell and we had hurricanes just about every year. The last 6-7 years the weather pattern shifted. The heat, although just the same as it used to (humidity as well) has become only what i can describe as different. It feels different. It's overwhelming.
Top it off with us having practically no hurricanes over category 1 for about a decade either i grew up in a tumultuous time or something is wrong. Only hurricane I didnt ride out was Hugo, I was two years old at the time so I didn't have much sayso in the matter. The hurricane patterns alone are enough to cause me personally concern.
I was born and raised in coastal SC. Went to college in Melbourne Fl. I cannot recall a single year we didn't have at least one semi serious hurricane growing up. At this point it has been ten years AT LEAST since i had to put up my hurricane shutters. The heat at this point is overwhelming my over $20,000 air conditioning system. Even after fresh insulation and totally new duct work (that was $13,000). We technically have enough AC to cool our house over three times it's square footage, it has been compression tested with no leaks found anywhere.
I'm not one to bitch about heat and I could deal with sweating all damn day if it was just me. However I have 4 kids, one is a non verbal level two autistic young man that is a wonderful toddler. I honestly feel like I'm failing him (and my other three) by not providing a comfortable living environment. It is now to the point I'm about to sell our house and move into an apartment that could be more sustainable.

Born and raised local of Myrtle Beach. I live close to the beach, we did have ash fall a few nights ago, however I've got plenty of friends in the area of the fire. They could see the blaze but still were not ordered to evacuate, our fire departments can and will handle it. My oldest attends a charter school in Conway so im driving through the smoke to get him there. Everything is fine here, we're good to go.
Rain tonight will end it.
