Vietnam was a mistake.
What about "Freedom of speech, not right to reach"? Would you be okay with that?
So, when is it okay for unarmed citizens to be executed in the streets by their government?

I stumbled upon this article I that I found fascinating: It's a paper on American attitudes towards communism during the Cold War, and there's a lot of juicy opinion poll data from the 50's regarding civil liberties and the fight against communism. But the really interesting thing is that it's written seemingly during the end of the Clinton administration.
The wall fell nearly a decade prior, and the post-war issue the paper is most concerned with is the "lack of an enemy". The paper mostly maintains a neutral tone, but there is a faint, almost wistful nostalgia to the whole thing. About just how easy it was to get the American people behind you (or in other words, control the populace) back when there was a clear, tangible threat for everyone to worry about. In a darkly humorous moment, the paper mentions several tragedies/human rights abuses of the time, and opines that these just don't carry the "compelling moral appeal" of the fight against Communism - I would argue that the paper itself up to that point has made a strong case for it being not a moral issue, but one of safety and security.
So, we have a late 90's paper that's essentially about how getting Americans to be less precious about their civil liberties has gotten harder since America lost a Big Bad to punch up on the international stage.
Hmmmm... I wonder what happened next?
I mean... many ran to capitalist countries in Europe with systems that are labeled in America as socialist, is the weird thing
Don't worry everyone, Bernie's voting against it
I WAS WONDERING
Thank you.
The point of surgical masks is to stop loogies, spittle, sneezes, and (kinda but less so) aerosol clouds getting into opened-up patients below the masker. They were never intended for gestures vaguely yet wildly
I need to be putting ginger into more things!
You're welcome! B)
Maybe it's because current capitalist conditions are frankly, not good for the rando. Our country generates more capital than ever post-pandemic, corporations are continuing to post year-after-year record profits, banks collapsing, golden parachutes, etc, while regular folk are squeezed tighter and tighter.
"The grass seems greener on the other side" is a tired expression, but only because it is so often relevant. It seems to be a cross-cultural phenomenon of the human brain. Fixing what property you have is more work, less exciting, less promise of immediate change, than switching over to a different property entirely.
It is genuinely hard for the human brain to competently compare current crappy conditions the brain and the body it is in are currently experiencing, with the possibility of much worse dangers. Yes, even with the aid of historical precedent - especially in the post-truth global world.
I'm not saying it's impossible to think otherwise - clearly not. Just that the way our brains prioritize information and conditions make it an easy trap to fall into, before you factor in invisible hands.
That is generally the point of posting stuff on a chanboard, yes - the anonymity. It's my understanding that thus was part of the reason behind the change over to 8, was not trusting moot to not buckle to government pressure?
If you're getting tired of soy sauce, check out tamari sauce. 3 parts tamari to 2 parts oil, paprika and a pinch of brown sugar makes a sauce/glaze/marinade/whatever that goes real nice on meats and veggies alike before cooking. You don't need any extra oil, just soak in the mixture for 5-15 minutes and throw it on a hot pan.
I think it was more the fact that Spaces was spun off of Periscope, a non-Twitter product that Twitter purchased and slapped on whole (not true, bottom-up integration). It was never intended to handle Twitter levels of traffic, definitely not post-Musk levels of traffic. And part of Musk's cleaning house was drastically reducing all staff, including the people who manage, update, and fix this kind of thing.
Everything is still pointing to Musk as a useful idiot and little more. He had to be forced into buying Twitter, and has mostly used it to make jokes and have some fun. When he gets bored of being a darling to a certain subset of people, he'll change things up to keep himself entertained.
dangit all is that a pun on delivered i can't even tell
Be careful what you wish for. Biden getting primary'd is extremely unlikely - the DNC's grip may not be what it used to be, but they will only let go when their dead fingers finally unclasp from rigor mortis - but running against someone besides Biden is the only way Trump can lose the election. Or dying, but dying at the right point in an election cycle can actually be very beneficial.
Biden is a weak candidate and a weaker incumbent. He generates no buzz in anyone younger than Boomerhood. Every single person I know who was born after 1970 who voted for Biden did so under duress, and not because they have any positive feelings for the guy. It's hard to imagine those same people getting excited about anyone (D) who's announced yet, though. I'm just saying, as long as the candidate is Biden, Trump has this in the bag. He delivered abortion while not even in office.
Occam's Razor says it's incompetence every time, and history seems to back him up on that, but William of Ockham lived and died before capitalism, to say nothing of everything that's come since. Multiple looking glasses have been passed through.
Honestly, Jeb is the best Bush because his legacy is a single exclamation point and some dangling chads, instead of dead Americans and thousands more dead Iraqis
I feel like autocorrect is getting more and more zealous. Used to be just misspelled words, now it corrects real, regular words to similar words it "thinks" you meant. I keep getting "love" switched for "live". I actually just recently turned it off on all my devices because I'd just gotten sick of it all.
I am using forced to refer to the baby, who generally has little choice in these matters. Please read my words carefully and try again. I am not advocating for abortion. Read my words.
??? I already gave my answer. Reading comprehension much?
That's okay, though, because they are creating capital. We have more capital than ever!
A lot of people here don't see much of a difference between birth control and abortion. Both thwart nature's course.
Maybe we shouldn't force children to be raised by immature people who can't deal with the consequences of their actions and don't want those children? Doesn't that seem like a cruel thing to do to a child?
I'm pretty sure Ted Cruz is just a spineless weenie who would lick gorilla butts clean if he thought t bfedSC
