My husband is partially deaf and we have this issue.. well...everywhere. My voice is not loud enough for me to project through the mask loud enough for him to hear. He reads lips along with his limited hearing so it’s very important that someone is facing him, not mumbling, and speaking at an elevated volume. Face masks ruin every one of those things. My voice sometimes hurts from having to talk very very loudly through my mask so he can hear me. I often have to relay info to him from others wearing masks. I finally got sick of it and I just pull the bitch down and say whatever needs to be said. Luckily no one has said anything to me, but if they do, I will tear them apart.
Hello fellow Deaf/HOH :). Pitch definitely is a big deal. His losses are in Lows and Highs with Mids being in his best range. Luckily my voice falls in the mid category so he can hear me probably better than most! He has hearing aids, however he doesn’t like to wear them since the Bluetooth feature started giving people brain tumors behind the ears. His hearing is degrading though and it’s getting harder to compensate. His sister and our oldest have the same genetic defect but the girls only have losses in the highs. Kind of curious he can’t hear lows worst, considering his voice is low and the ladies have high voices and can’t hear highs well!
Most companies don’t seem to produce them without that feature. He was waiting until his next screening (due this month) to get an update and see if they had options to remove/disable it in his. His are crazy expensive 5k-7k + and calibrated for him already so it would be ideal to use his current ones
Answering for deaf above. Deafness is more of a spectrum. Most people classified as deaf or hard of hearing don’t fall into the “cannot hear anything at all, total absence of sound” category. Instead hearing losses occur in ranges. Some people (like my daughter) can’t hear any pitches in the highest ranges. When I play violin for example and I play E string and above, She hears nothing at all. Makes no sound. But she can hear everything below that just fine. Some folks can’t hear tones all over the place and end up hearing more of a muffled noise. Generally speaking, hearing losses aren’t just about volume (though that does play a part!) they’re about whatever pitches/ranges that you have damage or loss in. That’s why the old (and highly offensive) “snap next to someone’s ear” doesn’t work. They may be able to hear that sound at that proximity in that range, but if someone was to shout from a distance or say something at a reasonable volume into a telephone or has a low voice, it’s practically inaudible. There’s also a cognitive processing factor that goes into it. People who have had losses without corrections or aids for a long time may struggle to actually process the sounds they’re hearing since their brains may have actually re-wired to comprehend information via lip reading or other sensory input! Fascinating stuff.
As I've aged, my hearing has been affected as well. It's the low sounds that come across as "muffled". I have the ringing in both ears for years (sounds like high static sounds), but I've become used to it. I have to admit, I hate when someone just shouts at me. LOL
What is fascinating to me is that whenever my wife speaks to me only the Subject of her sentence is muffled. "I want you to do ..something."
"Can you please get the blank."
"I told you yesterday that gone and disappeared and you said that someting"
Leads to no end of misunderstanding.
I look forward to every single one of them facing the same charges as the team of criminals from flint Michigan who have been indicted and are now facing criminal charges for exactly what these people are doing now..
Also, I know y’all will be really excited to hear this.... we have eradicated the flu!!! However, the flu and the vid have the same symptoms... does this mean the flu and the vid combined and now we have the fluvid?
Sorry been arguing with journalists aka science fiction writers this morning.. I live in NH and they told me that one story on election fraud is enough... so now I will haunt them if y’all would like to help.. WMUR in NH. There phone number is 603-669-9999.
They also informed me that they cannot report on Andrew cuomo murdering people In Nursing homes because they outsource those stories..
I have the emails.. I have emails from my district superintendent saying they copy and pasted fluvid info from the DOE website.. and DOE copied and pasted from CDC as did DPH in my state anyway... CDC copy and pasted from WHO.. this is not speculation, this is what they have actually told me in phone convos and emails..not one single agency did any due diligence in regards to the science... almost like they had a political agenda to enforce...so much political sciencing but not medical sciencing..
I have spoken with numerous government officials requesting the information they have used to make these policies... not one single political sciencing agency has provided this information-it’s okay I found it myself.. losers..
When (hopefully) all this is exposed, election, elite pedo child killers, the fake pandemic; I would have a hard time condemning anyone that calls out the mask nazi's in public, causes them to lose jobs, etc.
While the paper and pen method works, it's best used in a situation where the conversation doesn't take longer than 10 minutes. After 10 minutes, you will be tired of writing a lot of info on paper.
I had an accident that involved my right wrist and I'm right handed. I've been asked to do the pen-and-paper method and I declined every time because my wrist hurts after 5 minutes of writing. Doctors in the past have tried to convince me to use the pen-and-paper method, so they can save a couple of bucks by not providing a qualified sign language interpreter but I stood my ground and said no.
So yeah, pen and paper method is best for convos under 10 minutes but that may differ with individuals. I know for me, that's a big no.
Fantastic !! Great for you and your Dad -
my Mom is hard of hearing also and I always make sure I take her wherever I can -
I haven't worn a mask yet and don't plan to -
This Muzzle Mask is ludicrous ?
I'm glad you and your Dad didn't take that crap!
God Bless You Both ?
Tried to sue a doctor for denying me my rights to a qualified sign language interpreter and was told to take it to the Department of Human and Health Services.
The whole procedure took a YEAR to do then at the end, they said there's nothing I can do about it.
The system is BROKEN, unless you're willing to pay out of your pockets to sue them, for which I don't have the funds to do so.
Also, just wanted to let you know, the better term to describe deaf people is "Deaf/HOH".
"Hearing Impaired" is a political correct term that none of us asked for, yet the idiots identified us as such. Of course, that depends on the individual like if you've been hearing most of your life then you've suddenly gone deaf or your hearing has declined, then "hearing impaired" may fit here. Deaf people like myself, who have been deaf their whole life, do not want to be called "Hearing Impaired" as it implies that we're broken as a whole. Deaf is fine and it's not even offensive. It's apropos.
Here in CO our Governess (HE IS OPENLY GAY AND SO PROUD!) has mask mandate BUT he exempt, as always, there are exemptions to a KILLER whatever, DEAF AND HARD OF HEARING DO NOT HAVE TO WEAR A MASK! Have you ever heard anything so stupid! How am I, being 90% deaf going to HEAR better by not wearing a mask? I cut the article out of the paper and carry it in my purse. When someone tells me I have to wear a mask I show them the article and sometimes they say OK. One lady actually said I had to have a NOTE FROM MY DR. stating I was deaf! I asked her if she had ever heard of HIPPA? She said no. I told her HIPPA does not allow her to ask me about or for me to give her any of my personal health information. She said in a huff “Doesn’t matter about any of that you still need a mask”. I said “ Well, I’m not going to wear one so I guess I am done here.” I kept talking and asking questions just to stay there and piss her off. After about 20 minutes I said I would get my eye glass prescription filled somewhere else. Hard to believe this went on in Visionworks where you would think they would now the HIPPA laws!
Had exactly the same situation happen to me with American's Best. They refuse to allow my family and I in to get my child's glasses fixed/Rx renewal so they kicked me out. My wife (also deaf) stayed but they told her that we would need to set up an appt to see them 2 weeks later.
Told her we're not going back because they refuse to allow us in without a mask, even when the governor have made us exempted from wearing a mask.
It really felt awesome. She actually tried to shove me out the door, and im all “dont touch me lady”. I have NEVER gotten in to a confrontation like that in my whole life. She was legit shocked i stood up to her.
I’d Make sure to send a letter to the doctor letting him know why I changed practice. You never know it could have just been the fearfull clerks issue. Maybe not.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the Fauci/CDC/WHO recommended placing a ziplock bag over your head and securing it at the neck with a zip tie, you’d have people happily comply.
I'm deaf and even my doctor and the office allowed me to go in without a mask. I had a sign language interpreter but she wore a clear plastic mask that covered her whole face, not just the mouth area.
I have a good relationship with my interpreter and it was my first time seeing her after the pandemic started. She was shocked to see me walk in without a mask and she asked me to put my mask on. I told her that I'm not required to per the state's mandate mask policy. Even showed her the exemption and she said, "Damn you lucky bastard! I'm sweating with this stupid mask on my face!"
You and your father would need to learn the Americans with Disabilities Act law if you haven't, and understand your father's rights for necessary accommodations. If your father is fully deaf, he should be using a sign language interpreter and not rely on you if you're interpreting for him. Nothing wrong with you but it's wrong to use a family member as an interpreter because it's not your job. The doctor's office is responsible to provide one for your father.
If you have any questions, let me know as I'm profound deaf since I was a baby and have gone through this situation MANY times.
Thanks hun. He is 93 and needs a hearing aid. She was more upset with me and my non compliance...still cant believe that happened at at HEARING DOCTOR.

As a deaf may I suggest instead of loudness you try to alter the pitch of your voice?

Do they not have hearing aids that aren't Bluetooth anymore?

What do you mean? You can hear higher pitches better?

One would hate for the doctors yelp to be effected by a group that had a great nights sleep on a my pillow!
The medical community is disgusting.

They could’ve at least offered you a pen and paper.

I would of taken your Dad someplace else !! There's so many doctors out there - don't put up with that crap !!!
When they told him i wasnt allowed in there anymore, he said you just lost a patient and walked out haha.
Fantastic !! Great for you and your Dad - my Mom is hard of hearing also and I always make sure I take her wherever I can - I haven't worn a mask yet and don't plan to - This Muzzle Mask is ludicrous ? I'm glad you and your Dad didn't take that crap! God Bless You Both ?
❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I would have complained to his doctor when I got into the exam room with him.
fucking assholes. The real threat from covid is the gene modification shot. That shit will fuck you up.
Sue them
Discrimination against the hearing impaired is a crime, and they need their noses rubbed in it
Will be hard to do.

These tiny tyrants are gonna push people over the edge...
Yeah ive been kicked out of the ear nose and throat doctor. I was there for a breathing problem.

Don’t you love people who play sexually with shit all their life lecturing us on hygiene and disease prevention? I refuse!
Had exactly the same situation happen to me with American's Best. They refuse to allow my family and I in to get my child's glasses fixed/Rx renewal so they kicked me out. My wife (also deaf) stayed but they told her that we would need to set up an appt to see them 2 weeks later.

screaming about masks; what about social distancing? same kind of violation
I would find a different Dr.
Done
Send a letter to the medical board that they did not reasonably provide for communication for a hearing disabled person.
I’d Make sure to send a letter to the doctor letting him know why I changed practice. You never know it could have just been the fearfull clerks issue. Maybe not.
wow didnt even think about this. i dont wear masks now but no chance if i was deaf
I'm deaf and I don't even wear a mask at all. Hasn't wore one since the pandemic started.
good stuff
What if you just wear a clear visor? Apparently those are approved.
Nope, because this rona is so deadly and is killing people by the tens, you have to wear a clear visor and TWO face masks now!
The outside masks pushes the inner mask in for maximum suffocation.
I wouldn’t be surprised if the Fauci/CDC/WHO recommended placing a ziplock bag over your head and securing it at the neck with a zip tie, you’d have people happily comply.
I made that joke going in to another office once...they didn’t find it funny ??♀️
???!
No. No.
That's what my interpreter used and she said it's so hot and sweaty, she hated wearing it.
Downvoted for still wearing a mask and complaining about not doing it good enough.
What a lame bunch of people in that office. Heads way far up their butts. Leftards have lost every one of their marbles.
F that Dr...I hope he gets sued and goes under.
sue them
