Cannot remember Jonathan ever talking about this connection, it just occurred to me, could the safety centric mindset be due to the growth of the atheist population? The loss of God?
Perhaps combined with a relatively safe environment compared to human history, a loss of God would leave people more concerned about safety, because, in their minds, God doesn't exist and isn't looking it for their well being.

Damn sorry to hear that. That’s really messed up! I would never say that about or to my husband or another family member no matter how mad I got. You may need to have a serious sit down discussion with her about what she said, and if she still feels the same, especially when she’s calmed down, it may be time to separate. You don’t need that stress in your life.
She's abusive and I'm an idiot for staying, long story short this isn't a new thing. I've been struggling to get away for years and its been extremely difficult. My first successful attempt at leaving and failure was when I got a restraining order against her and managed to take my child with me. She got herself into a battered womans shelter, claimed I was the abuser, and also got the district attorney to back her. I was constantly harrassed by police and eventually I caved when she sweet talked her way back to my heart. Like I said I'm the idiot but whatever maybe one day I'll learn then just run away and disappear forever.
You need some video proof of her abuse. Don’t give up on your child and just leave, is the child safe with her? If you leave, your child might not understand why you left and can’t see or talk to you may cause the child to get depressed, thinking it was their fault you left.
If you leave, take the child with you and immediately file a temporary primary custody request through your attorney (the same day, if possible). This will put you in a MUCH stronger position when the custody issue goes before the court in the future. Its hard to argue that you are the better primary custodial parent if you choose to leave the child in her care instead of your own,
I actually did exactly this the first time around and she went full force playing the victim, everyone believed her, because there's no way a big guy like me can be abused by a little woman. She got the worst shark lawyer she could find and got the district attorney to back her somehow, they sent cops everyday to my house to intimidate me, I just gave up because I knew this would never work in my favor being how corrupt they all were.
this kinda shit is why some dudes "go out for a pack of smokes" and never return. Sucks for the kid though hopefully you can work out something to be in their lives.
