I’m about an hour west of DC. We do have a military base close by, so we do see military helicopter traffic..... but not like this.
They have been circling all morning.
I keep thinking about the announcement yesterday that “training exercises” were going to be going on in DC today.
Maybe it’s nothing... but thought I’d share, just in case.

Update: STILL circling. This has been going on for a few hours now........
Second update (1:00pm est): STILL happening but they’ve moved over a bit and are no longer flying directly over my house.....
Third update (4:00pm est): It’s going on about 2 hours since I’ve seen/heard anything. Might be over, whatever the hell was going on..... Would love an explanation!

Hah. I bet this "exercise" is a cover story. There was one time in Los Angeles (you can search for videos of this), the military announced not to be alarmed and that there would be training exercises where military helicopters would be landing on civilian buildings. That seems like such a large risk for an exercise (what if helicopter crashed into a building?)?
I bet something is happening in DC
I remember that. They tried to tell us it was just an exercise when they landed a flipping Blackhawk in the street and a bunch of operators busted into a building in the middle of L.A.
The military has training facilities for that sort of thing. They would never risk a helo accident over a populated area for a training exercise.

On a separate note we have alot of air activity in the UK today, F15s flying off the east coast of norfolk. Europe has alot of military craft up today aswell.
More than I usually see anyway although admittedly I don't check every day.
Yes I saw that earlier, a single F15 and then a pair flying from West to East mid country, coast to coast. Initially I thought they were intercepting a hijack/exercise aircraft, QRF.
Maybe their “circling back”.

Seen a bunch in LA (CA), westside, as well. Not constantly circling, but frequently passing.
I live 30 minutes from Chicago. I hear at least one helicopter every other day on average since January. A couple days ago I saw 2 black choppers while at the dog park.
I've seen a LOT of C-130s doing serpentine moves really, REALLY low over the neighborhoods around me for the last 6 months

I would have no idea whether or not this is actually training.... but it’s certainly not normal. I’ve never seen this before.
There was quite an increase in their activity in the weeks before and after the election... but it’s been oddly quiet for a while.
Today has been an entirely different story and far surpasses any activity I’ve ever witnessed. (They’re flying by again as I type this.)
Based on my option that doesn't sound normal then. Either something is up or there just going overboard in training :)
