One was ordered long ago, and it’s coming soon, due to arrive right. on. schedule.
(No, I don’t know that exact schedule, but I can indeed smell the delivery getting very close, and can confidently confirm it’s going to be “seventeen-star” spicy!)
I feel the same way. Although I feel like I was born in an interesting time, I feel like I should have been born in a later time, one where I could make a real difference.
I am currently reading a book about Jackson from the 1960's. I am only half way through it. It pretty much is about how Jackson got elected in 1828. He was the first President elected who wasn't considered a statesman. (like Trump)
Congress rigged the election of 1824 against him and put in John Quincy Adams. The electoral college votes were split among 4 candidates with none receiving the majority. But even though Jackson had the most of them, the House had the responsibility to elect the President and chose Adams over Jackson.
Many in congress were disillusioned with Adams due to his misuse of Presidential powers and his appointments to his administration. As one example: He was starting to meddle in international affairs (precipitated by a visit to Panama)
Thus a coalition of them decided they didn't want Adams to win reelection. So Jackson had extensive help from Martin Van Buren, John Calhoun, and Thomas Ritchie (editor of the Enquirer). But mostly Van Buren seemed to be the strategist.
There were complete changes in election practices prior to Jackson's win in 1828. Apparently it was the first time elections were promoted through conventions, the first time there were public opinion polls, and the first time the newspapers were involved in electioneering and building up the Jackson candidacy even if they lied. (how is THAT not surprising!)
There were lots of rallies in every state, county and area. It was the first time there was an active competition between two national parties. This was still a top down election with those at the top controlling even though the people were finally given a place where they could more effectively control the operation of government and shape public policy through their participation in local political groups.
Thus was the start of the two party system and the new Democrat Party.
During Andrew Jackson's funeral his pet parrot had to be removed from the service because it would not stop cussing out the mourners.
Also, a man tried to assassinate him but his gun misfired and Jackson ended up nearly beating the would-be assassin to death with his cane
Amen to that! Born for this moment and so glad to be living in this time!
AMEN!!!!!! And I'm so excited to be living during these biblical times! God Bless!

1824 election was rigged against him also , only to come back next time to slaughter the opposition.
