But France was traumatized by the first war, especially because of disfigured people and the use of toxic gases. It was not a pretty war, like in your Hollywood movies. For reference, since you came at the end of the war, in 1945, you lost "only" 50 000 people. Not the same level of trauma.

I'm more talking about the beaches of Normandy which is considered a turning point in the war for the US, but I'm not sure how big that turning point was against what Russia did that led to that final push against Berlin. Russians were on our side in that war but their part is discreetly left out of American History because they're the bogeyman.
