There was a guy who posted here who works for a telecom company I believe, and confirmed this. I know from going on the DW for eons, and taking programming for a few years, you can not hide online.
It's ALL 1's and 0's that can easily be traced right back to the PC using it.
The fact this guy wants you to take that risk to get this file is highly suspicious to me. You can not hide online.
Seriously... dude uploads a file to torrent. They get him - they get you all. How hard is it to track those 1's and 0's you SPECIFICALLY know you're looking for?
I would seriously err on the side of caution here folks.

I'd like to see them come arrest us for downloading a file that shows their corruption. If the Codemonkey is some larp, and the information isn't real than they can't arrest for just downloading a file. If the information is real, and we all have it they can't stop the spread of it.
There is one thing I suggest (and I would ask you to share those suggestion if I wouldn't be here when it will be released): if there would be more than one files and not as video - download but use VIRTUAL ENVIRONMENT.

Unless it's a very fancy bot net or ransomware I don't think it'll be worth ruining that channel and burning that name. The ABC people can already put CP on your computer, not only that but it's a pretty good defence if the uploader mislabeled it.

For instance, the feds built an entire "encrypted" messaging app that they used to take down some criminals. Obviously no criminal would use it now, but they already got what they needed from it, so they will just create another and criminals will still be stupid enough to use it.

VPNs are mostly a way to spoof your location. They don't necessarily provide anonymity.
Also, a lot of VPNs will bend over for the government in one way or another; either your government will ask their government to ask them, or your government will mandate the information themselves if they want to continue doing business with users under their thumb.
That means your initial location can easily be obtained by any government in a pretty short time. VPNs will comply.

Become a torrent seeder of the release only if you know what you're doing.
Spread the release in question to people by giving them the tiny dedicated .torrent file, or a link to it, regardless of whether you choose to host/seed the release yourself.
Giving them the torrent file without vetting whether or not they "know what they are doing" is exactly my point. You can't spread it far and wide when only 0.01% of people mask their IPs while torrenting.
I think there might be an implication here that if you're just a Leecher and not a Seeder, in other words you just download it and then remove the torrent from your list once it's done, then you don't have to worry about the VPN stuff.
It's near impossible to download without simultaneously uploading also (on a very popular torrent)
I know but as long as you don't have 100% of the content downloaded, you're not listed as a Seeder.
I'm assuming that if people were to be targeted by bad actors, a distinction would be made, if this is possible, to only go after the Seeders because Leechers don't necessarily know what they're downloading.
Even in that case, unless you have a very specific option enabled to "stop seeding when ratio is at 0.000" then you'll continue to seed once the download is complete, if only for a few minutes. Again this is not explicitly stated in his instructions which is bizarre.

not incompatible at all. there are many, many people very familiar with torrenting. just because you arent one, doesnt mean its not an effective strategy.
"Familiar with torrenting" isn't the issue. That already narrows the field but is not the issue. He specifies that people need to take extra precaution when torrenting to completely anonymize yourself, which the VAST, VAST majority of people do not know how to do. (and he doesn't help)
