If the internet goes down so does the economy. You will not be able to buy anything because the stores are always connected to complete the transactions. most places will not even take cash when the system is down.
There is a walmart near me. We had a bad storm. Walmart lost connection. they stayed open but you could not buy anything even with cash. It only lasted for an hour or two but it was a wake up call for me.

I am a software engineer. I have doubts about this. I would think big cloud providers like Azure. Would already prepare for this. If the net it shut down. That will kill their business.

TBL has been working on this project for some time. He has to have excellent physical security as he is literally creating an alternative to SkyNet (even though he was the original creator of SkyNet!) and is clearly more than capable of handling his own cyber security. Verizon lost a bunch of towers last night in the south and ATT is having issues as well.
At has had issues for over ten years. That's why I finally left them. Got tired of them telling me they were fixing the towers.
They control most of the companies and resources that run worldwide communications. Strategically, if you couldn't keep it, wouldnt you try to destroy it as well?
