In war, there is a specific strategy to maim enemy soldiers, rather than kill them outright. Because its more resource-intensive for the enemy to expend $ and manpower on rescue efforts in a hot zone, and then after that, caring for the wounded which consumes medical resources. Wounded, maimed and disfigured survivors are demoralizing to the enemy too, so its yields propaganda victories as well.
And now we are seeing huge numbers of the worlds population getting maimed where they will likely be permanent cripples for the duration of their shortened lives.

Make sure she knows that she formed part of the consensus and social conformal pressure to other people to join in with this plan. She might be the victim but she was also an unwitting oppressor. They make their moves with the strength of numbers and abusing people's cognitive biases like the buyer's or sunk cost, dissonance aversion and the like.
She needs to understand she didn't read any primary literature on the subject, she trusted a bunch of shitheads who she probably always felt were shitheads before covid and made her choices out of fear rather than reasoned judgment. These people are dangers to themselves and others and society as a whole, do what you can to get her to see that and never do it again.
