Hey devil - Mucinex D contains pseudoephedrine, which is chemically almost identical to ephedrine (one of the most amazing molecules God put on this Earth).
Pseudoephedrine is tracked by the government because you can use it to make meth (it's chemically very similar to meth, in fact).
Ephedrine was banned under GWB, and it was the primary ingredient in many "get ripped" and "lose weight" supplements. I used it all the time when I was active duty to keep under max weight.
Although banned as a supplement, ephedrine can be found in ma huang, a plant used in traditional Chinese medicine. If you're near a city, find a Chinese herbalist and you should be able to buy ma huang and make a tea out of it - works like a champ.
Also, ephedrine is not banned as "a drug", and your pharmacist may have Bronkaid or Primatene tablets behind the pharmacy counter - you just have to ask for them. However, I don't know if those count as being tracked the same way pseudoephedrine is (if it is, you're kind of screwed on this option).
Additionally, ephedrine is not banned in almost every other country, so you can buy online if you don't mind paying international shipping fees. If you're near either Mexico or Canada, I think you can still get ephedrine rather easily in either country.
Came to mention these 2, bronkaid and primatene. Believe they are tracked but worth a try as you are in need. Also try different locations or stores, some may be a bit more lax in their tracking.
I'm not a doc but I've had pneumonia several times. To break up chest congestion you can have someone do chest percussions on your back. A good video on YouTube is Breaking up mucus with percussion and postural drainage by Breathe Better with Elizabeth. This is the technique my mom was taught to treat me at home. Get better soon.
Consider using NAC. The FDA, true to its purpose of controlling citizen access to healthy supplements etc, wants to ban this safe and long-used supplement, but it's still available in some places, including at Life Extension (I have no connection to them other than as long-time a customer).
As is typical with most over-the-counter supplements, "side effects" are generally "better overall health" instead of something horrible like liver damage and whatnot -- still, see here for negative side effects. CAVEAT: You can hurt yourself with way too much of anything, so there's always that. Also, I'm not a doctor; this is just some text on the internet, so do your own research.
Jut get the regular Mucinex and get a separate cough medicine or, if your cough is bad, have your doctor prescribe one. Apparently the only extra ingredient in Mucinex DM is a cough medicine - dextromethorphan.
Just an FYI, that stuff is hard on the liver and kidneys if taken for long periods of time. Everything in moderation. I have used it occasionally in the past as well.
Just don't take it any more than you have to, maybe it will be gone by next week for you. I have a cousin going through the same thing, whole family came down with the coof, his wife jabbed, he is not, now he has been fighting of pneumonia. Keep the Vicks rub going, I used to get pneumonia once a year as a kid, don't get it anymore for some reason 🤷♂️. I will get back at you after I check with him and see where he is at with his illness and remedy.
Not sure if it would work, but we’ve gotten two rounds of Claritin d by going to two different pharmacies. They say it’s tied to your license, but we haven’t had a problem. My husband and I both have seasonal allergies. My license was expired, so he got us both some. Worth a try.
Also, nebulize 3% food grade hydrogen peroxide. 2 ml saline to 1 ml FGHP. Once an hour. Can get the nebulizer and the FGHP at compounding pharmacies or on Amazon.
Only option is to get a product that does not contain pseudoephedrine. Primatine Mist tablets worked great when I didn't have an Inhaler and needed some asthma relief but found out the same way when I got denied another box later that month. The damn Meth-heads ruined it for those who actually need it.
If you really want to open up your lungs and loosen up any congestion, you should ask your doctor if they can write you a script for an albuterol inhaler or the liquid for the nebulizer. Its a common safe asthma medication so it shouldn't be an issue. Just tell them you get a little wheezy at night.
Maybe try some quinine from grapefruit and lemon peel. Tons of YouTube videos on it. I made some and it had draining out my sinuses really well. Also some pine tree tea may be worth a look since that is more for respiratory health. I haven’t drank it while sick but it did have me cough up some phlegm out of my lungs. I’m not a doctor I am only speaking from experience.
Anecdotally I've heard that nebulizing helps fight pneumonia, including nebulized hydrogen peroxide, but I can't recommend it for that as I don't have direct experience. But I researched it a lot before, and remember reading that. At any rate, having alternative therapies might be a good idea, especially if you're maintenance dosing.
Another poster recommended oregano & garlic, and those have worked for me in the past.
This is because Mucinex-D contains pseudoephedrine. I don't know if this will work, but you could always try buying generic pseudoephedrine along with one of the types of Mucinex that does not contain pseudopehedrine and then take them together. If this doesn't work, see if you physician can give you a work-around.
Other than the regular Mucinex you can buy over the counter, no. As far as that goes. Claritan D, or Allegra D, which you still have to show ID for to purchase may help. Side note not medical advise. I do however use chlortabs they are like $2.58 at Walmart and can be taken every 4-6 hrs. And I have chronic issues. Just an idea. Hope you feel better.
You are prob taking the = of Guaifenesin 600 mg/Pseudoephedrine 60 mg
You could get family to “score” med for ya which is a insult to folks like us
You MD might write a Rx for Muc D or a “large” qty of Pseudoephedrine. I sometimes get a Rx for the Pseudoephedrine.
You could get friend or family to score the Pseudoephedrine for u. Think u can get up to a 48 ct of generic 30 mg tablets at Walgreens or Walmart w/o a Rx. Then add the plain Mucinex and u have you Muc D.
I hope this helps and u start feeling better. Keep moving, coughing, and deep breathing. You don’t want the pneum to consolidate anymore than what it has already. Drink lots of water and stay away from thick, dairy products. It makes the secretions thicker. They don’t teach that anymore in the nsg or dietitian schools which is why I mentioned. However, I’m quite sure common sense told u this already!
Vicks helps. Put it on your chest and neck. Also, the inset of your feet. No, I'm not kidding. I remember reading that the inset of your feet are tide to your lungs through acupuncture points.
That's just with Sudafed. Ask your doctor to recommend or prescribe another decongestant. If you want to try something herbal, i can't rave enough about Umcka, I prefer the drops but you can also get chews. It will clear out any nasal and lung congestion and as far as I can tell doesn't interact with anything. You can get it at Vitamin Shoppes. I have a lung disorder and bad allergies, a bad combination if you like to breathe. Umcka really helps me.
I just noticed from your link image that the orange box of Mucinex has guaifenesin in it, I had no idea😅 when I suggested that above.
Anyways, guaifenesin is what I used in March of 2020 (before I knew about ivermectin) when I had the what I think was the rona. At the time we lived in WA state very near the original outbreak and there were very few tests available, especially if you were still walking upright and under the age of 55. I could not shake off the heavy wet lungs. I’d been struggling for close to two months with an unproductive cough. I finally ordered some pure Guaifenesin Capsules online and it worked perfectly. I hope you find something that helps!!!
Dardar, Costco sells monster bottles of guaifenesin 400 mg for about $10-$15. I prefer this to the supposed 12 hour dosage in Mucinex, which never lasts anywhere close to 12 hours for me. I'd rather just take 400 mg every few hours. It's KIrkland brand and has 200 tablets.
Have 3 other friends buy it for you.
OREGANO GARLIC and HONEY TEA
Guaifenesin Is a GREAT expectorant.
NAC can be used as an expectorant along with many other benefits. https://www.swansonvitamins.com/swanson-premium-nac-n-acetyl-cysteine-600-mg-100-caps

In addition to the medications suggested here by others, keeping one's chest slathered with Vick's Vaporub helps to break up chest congestion.

For the Primatene try Kroger. I'm not sure if it's a regional thing but I was able to find it here.
Pay people to get it for you under their drivers licences....Hang around outside the CVS in a trench coat with crisp $10 for them to get you a box.
Have everyone in the house buy some.
Any friends who can buy some for you?

Horsetail tea is great for cleansing out the respiratory system.
The steroids should do the trick.

I know a guy who is very physically fit, he took cipro and ruptured his Achilles’ tendon using one of those HealthRider machines.

Same thing for the real sudafed, have to get from pharmacist and sign for it. Try buying 2 boxes at a time!

Try a naturopathic doctor for other remedies.

They have the same limitations on buying Sudafed or any generic form.
Sudafed is the brand name for pseudoephedrine. ;-)
I know. That's what I said.
Sorry, it sounded like you didn't realize they were the same thing.
No problem. No matter whether you buy the brand name or generic, the same restrictions are there.

So here’s my contribution for the day:

Tulsi tea is good as is Chlorine Dioxide. My breathing improves with the CD.
Look up bidens tincture. Herbal decongestant. Easy to make your own and works!
Go to different stores. CVS, walgreen, local pharmacy, grocery store
Wow, I thought it may have just been internal tracking. I didn’t think it was a shared database between all stores
Lots of good thoughts here. Also be sure to sleep or rest on your stomach as to not have any additional weight/stress on your lungs.
The part of covid that kills people is the pneumonia. I would think ivermectin or hcq would help with that.
Are you taking D3, Zinc, extra C?
Vicks helps. Put it on your chest and neck. Also, the inset of your feet. No, I'm not kidding. I remember reading that the inset of your feet are tide to your lungs through acupuncture points.
I used Ivermectin off label for Bronchitis and it helped a lot.
That's just with Sudafed. Ask your doctor to recommend or prescribe another decongestant.
