St. Peter was crucified upside down because he requested it. He said he was not worthy to be crucified upright like Jesus. St. Peter was considered the first pope, as Jesus said " And I tell you that you are Peter and on this rock I build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it."
That is what we were told when I went to Catholic school. I always thought it was evil and bad.
I never understood how they pulled a Pope, a person between a person and God, from Peter being the rock. Jesus was the church. Peter was the church. We are the church. It’s in you, not a building. And somehow a figure head rose up out of all that. And a title, and a pope was made. There is no one between a person and Jesus. Not a preacher or am pope. Yet I have talked to many Catholics that have told me that the Pope is the closest to God. The pedestal they place him on. So wrong IMO.
Every church has a leadership hierarchy - in NO WAY does the pope replace or stand in between Jesus. The Pope is simply the head bishop, and it's not made up. The word “Pope” is derived from the Greek word, “pappas”, which means, "father" (Latinized as “papa”). In Isaiah 22, verses 19-24, we see God telling Shebna, who was the chief minister of the House of David, that he will be replaced in his office by Eliakim, and that Eliakim will have authority and will be a “father” [papa; pope] to the inhabitants of Jerusalem and to the House of Judah.
I am not defending the PERSON who currently holds the title of Pope. I theorize that we will be learning a lot more about The Siri Thesis in the near future, where the real pope was replaced by a man the Freemasons planted. This explains A LOT of what has been happening in the Catholic Church.

Barely started reading the Siri Thesis just now - WAY to long to read before work in an hour - but thanks for the the link, it looks very interesting and informative.

The "Rock" wasn't Peter, but Peter's CONFESSION, the truth that Christ was the promised Messiah, the Son of the Living God. Upon that truth, Jesus said He would build His Church. Eventually Roman papists would corrupt that passage as a way of justifying their power grab over the rest of the Christian churches. It was purely political and evil.
However, as to the declaration: Upon this rock I will build My Church, certainly the Church has not been built upon the authority of man, but upon the ministry of the confession which Peter made, in which he proclaims that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God. He accordingly addresses him as a minister: Upon this rock, i.e., upon this ministry. [Therefore he addresses him as a minister of this office in which this confession and doctrine is to be in operation and says: Upon this rock, i.e., this preaching and ministry.]
absolutely correct. mixed with paganism. completely invented. they say peter was 1st pope but look at what the criteria is to be pope. he did not meet their criteria.
Well I wouldn’t say all their beliefs, as most of those are Christian beliefs. But as far as the Pope, covered in gold, in his gold palace, his gold chair. Yeah, that’s the one I would question. I get what you mean though. 👍
Incorrect. You know nothing so stuff a sock in it. The true church was infiltrated as was our nation. Long ago...like our nation. You dont understand anything about it. Time you learn truths instead of gossip grievances from wanna be churches that pander to peoples whims rather than uphold Christs church . The infiltration of the church began in earnest right after the French revolution. Our nations infiltration began right after the civil war. Long foretold was this infiltration of evil. Evil infiltrates everything good ....but doesnt change it anymore than it changed We the people. If you knew the history chronologically you would not he so buffaloed by faux Churches. In the end...you shall see. Be ready to repent and beg Jesus to forgive your lazy ignorance.
Bella Dodd — How Communists Subverted the Catholic Church
She [Bella Dodd] said that of all the world’s religions, the Catholic Church was the only one feared by the Communists, for it was its only effective opponent. Speaking as an ex-Communist, she said: “In the 1930’s, we put eleven hundred men into the priesthood in order to destroy the Church from within.” The idea was for these men to be ordained and then climb the ladder of influence and authority – to come to be Monsignors and Bishops. Back then she said, “Right now they are in the highest places, and they are working to bring about change in order that the Catholic Church will no longer be effective against Communism.”
She also said that these changes would be so drastic that “you will not recognize the Catholic Church.”
I'm not sure where this comes from, but here's what I know: I have a bible from my great, great grandmother - so I can confirm that they were not banned from owning, reading, and reflecting on the word of God.
I think you're confused with Rome's banning of printing the Bible in any language other than Latin. So yes, same idea of not wanting the common layman to be able to read and learn for himself in the common tongue, but Bibles weren't outright banned...
We (Presbyterian) were taught that the statement Peter made was the rock, or the foundation.:
He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?
Mat 16:16
And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. 17
And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in Heaven
Mat 16:18
And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
That's right - Jesus rebukes Peter, because Peter wants Christ without the Cross! He wants salvation with hard work and suffering!
[21] From that time Jesus began to shew to his disciples, that he must go to Jerusalem, and suffer many things from the ancients and scribes and chief priests, and be put to death, and the third day rise again. [22] And Peter taking him, began to rebuke him, saying: Lord, be it far from thee, this shall not be unto thee. [23] Who turning, said to Peter: Go behind me, Satan, thou art a scandal unto me: because thou savourest not the things that are of God, but the things that are of men. [24] Then Jesus said to his disciples: If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. [25] For he that will save his life, shall lose it: and he that shall lose his life for my sake, shall find it.

The office of the current pope, and Rome all together is made up.
They have a different Gospel. Scripture warns us about that.
Peter wasn’t the rock, the statement “ You are the Christ, the Son of the living God” was/is the rock the church is built upon
Agreed. And thank you for yours and the others info. Appreciated.

No, he renamed him. Simon Bar Jonah to Kephr or Petra.
Irrelevant to the passage in question.

Something about being humble...

Plus the catholic church banned members from owning Bibles. I wonder why...
Uhh, I'm Catholic and I've never been banned from owning Bibles. Every Catholic shop I see sells Bibles of various types.
I'm not sure where this comes from, but here's what I know: I have a bible from my great, great grandmother - so I can confirm that they were not banned from owning, reading, and reflecting on the word of God.
That's absurd.
This is so wrong. Freemason propaganda. You can literally look this stuff up, you know?
I think you're confused with Rome's banning of printing the Bible in any language other than Latin. So yes, same idea of not wanting the common layman to be able to read and learn for himself in the common tongue, but Bibles weren't outright banned...
Catholic here and taught the same thing.

Petros is the word used when Peter is addressed, petra is the word used in reference to the rock that would be built on.
Ironically enough, He turns around almost immediately and rebukes Peter as an adversary, when Peter responds to a statement about Jesus' death.
